Hello Everyone,

I have never actually bought a PC in my life, hand me downs and old desktops for uni stuff- to be fair these were good enough for RTS games etc and doom on dial up. .But that was a long long time ago,

I spend all of my gaming time on my ps4 currently as its convenient and looking for a starter gaming PC to get back into the swing of things.

Spec wise I'm really unsure of what I should/shouldn't be getting so really need some input.

I would be doing the occasional video editing on camtashia but nothing hard core and I wouldn't mind playing 4k gaming on it. Really have no idea on what type of processor or graphics card I need.

I have a budget of around 600-800 for the PC alone and preferably want a SSD and the ability utilise two screens for work purposes( need a dual port video card?)

I would prefer a pre-built PC as I have no doubt I would **** up building it myself, I did look at getting the below PC but wouldn't mind getting one cheaper if it did the job.

Thanks in advance,

That system you linked to, with a few tweaks (up the RAM to 16GB, add 480GB SSD, choose the Sapphire 590, remove Windows 10) could well be best value for money. I've tried putting components together but they surpass the cost of the Gaming Citizen.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
  • 1 x OcUK Gaming Citizen Gaming PC - AMD Ryzen 5 2600, RX 590 8GB Graphics ***THREE FREE GAMES*** = £772.00
    • Memory:Team Group Vulcan T-Force 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C16 3000MHz Dual Channel Kit - Grey (TLGD416G30
    • Graphics Card:Sapphire Radeon RX 590 Nitro+ 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
    • Solid State Drive (optional):TeamGroup 480GB L5 Lite SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 3D NAND Solid State Drive
    • WIFI:Unwanted
    • Operating System:Unwanted
    • Security Software:Unwanted
Total: £786.10 (includes shipping: £14.10)

Then you purchase a cheap Windows 10 key at some point to activate. Windows will come installed, and usable, just not activated.

4K gaming is expensive due to graphics power required so I would stay away from a 4K gaming monitor for now. Go with 1080p or 1440p and check that it has Freesync.

@Danny75 hi, I have been looking at this build for some time but not sure what its like as Iv not had a pc since I was a kid, I’m now 30 so it has been a while.:)
Will this play most games on high settings? And also i was looking at the vega 56 graphics card is it worth upgrading to that or is the rx 590 nitro good enough

Thanks for your help

(Also sorry if I have hijacked the thread I was going to start a new one but seen this)

if you dont buy windows from OCUK they wont put the image on at all.. i asked in the past for this

Thanks for the heads up Kurgen. Could have sworn some years ago, staff said on this forum that they have to install basic Windows to test the systems anyway. I don't think I imagined it but who knows.

If so, then download Windows onto USB stick and install from that. You'll need another PC or laptop for the download of course.

Yes, high at 1080p resolution.

Vega 56 better for 1440p resolution.

By the way, don't try to "futureproof" when it comes to graphics cards. If you spend more than you need, in a year or two, new cards that cost less and are faster, appear on the market lol.

Second-hand EVGA GTX 1070 with some warranty left is also a good budget option. I bought one the other day, and registered it successfully. Website tells me remaining warranty = 600 days. Not bad for £183.
