Southern Softies

The weather was bad up North on Tuesday. Most of our schools were closed, merited a passing mention on the news. Two days later when the same amount hits the south coast it's wall to wall TV News coverage.

And they wonder why the country is going off the rails....

Remember when one tree got blown over in London and made the national news?

We were experiencing 100mph+ gusts in North West Wales at the time so had a good laugh about that one.

It's not like the Met Office doesn't issue warnings advising people of potentially dangerous conditions, that everybody makes a conscious choice to ignore and then cries when they get caught out in it

To be fair there is some progress from organisations that value quality journalism. Channel 4 News poached a good local BBC journalist who is their North of England Correspondent. It's balanced out their output somewhat. Baby steps.

Moved from Manchester to Southampton for work last year. Had maybe 2 inches of snow on the car yesterday. Of course, Southern lot were moaning. While I did some donuts on a car park before heading into work :p

There is literally nothing and the news is going crazy. This was Skegness sea front last year when the beast from the east hit. Now that was proper snow. The A52 was closed for days and only accessible by proper 4x4's with snow tyres.

We had a bit of snow here in Edinburgh this morning so I popped on a pair of trainers and put a jumper over my T-shirt for my early morning walk with my cat Millie.
The BBC was talking of yellow snow warnings this morning, I blame the lack of public toilets. :D

How does one walk a cat? Do you put a lead on it or something? I walk my dog but my cat just does what ever it likes! lol

I use the term walking the cat very loosely but she tend to come where I go though she will deviate into gardens and whatever takes her fancy. It started out with her following me to the local shop to get a paper and milk now she expects a walk everyday and will nag me to get up to take her.
This is her after a visit to the vet once we have crossed the main road I let her out of the carrier and she walks home with me.

Surprised you didn't you end up with frost bit on your... end

It's the Chelsea Tractors that I don't understand. 4x4's shouldn't be so useless in snow, it's embarrassing.
Chelsea tractors have large rims, low profile summer tires and inept drivers in common.

If they had a decent tread tire and a competent driver they'd have a lot less issues. Plus the lack of selectable drive.

Most are barely 4wd, more 70% rear wheel drive and 30% sent to the front.

My hilux spent most of Wednesday pulling people out of the village one of my sites is situated.

I did notice that the news seems to now be reporting snow fall in cm rather than inches to try and make it sound more "snowmageddon" than it really is to the average punter.
Ilegal to talk in inches until we leave the EU. Then I'm off to buy a pound of sausages and a gallon of petrol.
Andi.

Quite. I don't get it.
