Vega 56 or wait for Navi?

So I posted on here a few weeks ago about upgrading my crossfired 290X, I was just about to pull the trigger on a Vega 56, but just noticed the news about Navi definitely coming this year, possibly not that far off, which has left me in a bit of a dilemma, do I get the Vega or should I wait for Navi?

Whats your thoughts? Cheers :)

I ordered a 56 last night, upgrading from my 970. My plan had been to wait for Navi, but to me its a nobrainer with the games package that is being offered. I was planning to buy Division2 for £50 anyway. You can probably get rid of your current cards for easily half of the cost, making the financial investment quite small.

If Navi comes and I really want it, I will be able to move the 56 on for more than I put into it.

I was pondering this same question. With no fixed release date, no idea of benchmarks or prices, I decided to plump for the Vega 64 (with the three games -which can be sold for £50 easy), sell my old card and get the immediate benefit.

If you wait for Navi, what's stopping you waiting on the next iteration of cards? There is always something bigger and better coming along. If the price/performance suits you on a gpu just now - why wait?

This you always end up waiting, buy now, enjoy gaming now then if what comes in x number of months is a major boost consider changing again, but I doubt it anything will be a major performance boost over VEGA, if Vega 7 is the flagship and shall be for this year, then that gives you an idea that NAVI at best is 15% quicker than VEGA 64 if all goes well and the price could be £250 or it could be £400, crystal ball and all that.

My guess is the Navi card that is as fast as 56/2060 will be around the £250 mark, which would put it £100 cheaper than the Nvidia product. At best it will be £200 for a reference model which would put it £50 cheaper than the current 56 pulse if you sell on the games, and even then the HBM is better than gddr6.

Waiting that long for a slight saving is not worth it imo. I bought the 56 which arrived today and will finish my new build, I don't plan on replacing the 56 for at minimum 2 years till the next gen consoles and intel/7nm+ Nvidia/arcturus is out.

Graphics cards are tools for playing games.

No one in their right mind would wait until next year for a better or cheaper hammer or screwdriver to come onto the market.

These days I would not want to game on a 4gb card even at 1080p, I would want to upgrade now and get the most out of my gaming time.

I still have 4 quadfired 290Xs but I would never use them for gaming now as they are too VRAM limited.

In the same dilemma currently having a 970 GTX, decided to go for the Sapphire Vega 56 @ £299 only to see that the price has gone up, I guess you snooze you lose!

The issue you might have is Navi will be a lot more expensive but not nearly enough of an improvement to be worth the cost, but you'll no longer be able to find a Vega card. So you'll be kicking yourself for not buying earlier. A bit like the current geforce situation :p

Gaming and GPU requirements have become pretty stale in the last few years. They are lasting a long time.

Upgrade now if there is a good deal on a 56 you like. Don't play the waiting game. The days of a new generation offering 100% more performance for the same or less are done.

I'm waiting, though I've been waiting to upgrade my 970 since the 1080 launch, I just want decent performance at around £250, and the jumps every 4 years like 2010 GTX460 to 2014 GTX970 and 970 to 1060 (lol) in 2018, so still waiting.

A 56 on deal with £50 games is great card. Most enthusiasts sell cards on when buying new and recoup good proportion back so in that sense you may aswell go ahead as waiting more than 6 months is a bit of a waste imo.
