some scum bag has dented my car - it’s about 3inches in width, and looks very much like some inconsiderate pleb has opened their door very hard and slammmed it into the area above my rear drivers side wheel arch.

Fortunately there is no paint damage and the dent appears relatively shallow but it’s clear as daylight due to the shadow it produces.

I want it sorted but, it’s a company car and so I’ll likely need to get it fixed personally unless I want to pay the excess for someone else’s prattish behaviour.

On that note, has anyone any experience of the ‘do it yourself’ kits you can get? I can get behind the wheel arch and dent and it’s not so big that you would need a garage I don’t think

Dyi kits are rubbish. Get a paintless dent repair guy to sort it out. I had fixadent work on my Z4 and he got rid of 2 dings. Couldn't tell where it was and it was £90 for 2 and 45mins of his time.

Yea, as above, get one that comes recommended as well, the quality of work between PDR guys can go from "shocking" to "never knew it was there" and a lot comes down to experience.

Thanks both - will look into it.

Any recommendations for the Surrey area?

Ah they cover my area - will send them a pic and get it booked in

Next I need the alloys sorting - quite kerbed

Some of the DIY kits are ok, and some pro's use very similar equipment, but operating them correctly is a whole different ball game.

Most will go straight for the deepest part of the dent and start pulling there, but that's usually the wrong approach. You have to think about the mechanics of how the dent was formed, and try to reverse the process, which normally means working slowly from the outside in. I don't do PDR myself but do lots of metalwork with pin pullers, slide hammers, hammer & dollies etc and the general principle of dent removal is the same, I just have to paint them afterwards :D

Do yourself a favour and find a professional, it isn't a skill that can be picked up instantly and certainly not one you want to learn on your own car. :)

Most of the DIY kits don't include the tools to do a perfect job of it.

For one small dent it's probably going to be about £60 so just pay the guy.
