Highland games have included non-binary events for years....

Cycling + running events have always been mixed gender for as long as I can remember. Maybe the heavy events are different but I've never competed in those so not sure of the rules.

To be fair a non-binary category seems like a good idea, should implement it at the olympics too instead of having trans and intersex runners in the women’s events.

What’s under the kilt? Highland Games may include ‘non-binary events’ after threats to slash funding
https://www.rt.com/news/451180-highland-games-non-binary/

Should we be expecting the olympics to be following suit?
Will this be a third category or just mixed races, what's next no gold, silver, bronze but a medal for taking part?

Adding a "non-binary" category is fine. So long as women's and men's events are still limited to only those categories, let them do as they wish. In practice, it's likely to be a non-issue as all you'd get is one or two non-binary types who are actually men competing with each other. The threat to sports is men declaring themselves women and then using that to win at women's events as it destroys women's events as a category. The reverse doesn't happen for obvious reasons.
