56 Black Men...

I don't see the problem with having a hood up. Especially in the winter months. I have barely any hair on my head so I will often have my hood up if I'm outside and if I haven't got a hat. If someone feels threatened by that, that's on them, I can't help how they feel.

Currently sat in work with a lavender hoody on. I don't think many would be intimidated by me today.

i dont particularly care what colour someones skin is but someone skulking about with their hood up making an obvious effort to hide their features is going to raise my awareness and make me take notice of them as a potential threat.

its amazing the difference dress can make to your perception,

if i see someone on a moped wearing a belstaff jacket and a hi vis i'm not going to percieve that as a threat. if i see someone on a moped wearing a £200 pair of trainers a hoody and a baseball cap i'm going to be on my guard.

perhaps the hand wringers should be looking at why more young black men commit violent crime as a percentage than other ethnicitys than worrying about why more young black mean get stopped.

I have a general distrust of anyone with their hood up when not really necessary.
Thread subject aside this is actually my new pet peeve when walking around London. People with their hood up indoors, or when not necessary in the street. They're so oblivious of their surroundings they'll step in your way, not realise you're trying to overtake etc. It completely does my nut. Do an art installation on that, Lammy.

I have to admit I regularly have my hood up when wearing my hoodies in my down time. It's got a lot to do with my bald head and crap immune system and not wanting to get ill all the time. I can see why it might preturb others but not worth judging people on imo.

Yep. That's the same for me too. I'm sure people have probably seen me in a hoodie and sweatpants and avoided me but if it's working as a deterrent I may have to do it more often to avoid social interactions with Joe Public! :P

See, in the winter it makes perfect sense. What is odd is when people do it in the summer or - one i'm seeing more commonly, when driving! WTF is that about?

Dress like an adult and you won't get treated like a thug.

I'd rather dress for comfort. I'm very glad I don't have to wear a suit to work any more. My office is super casual so I can rock up in whatever I want. If someone wants to judge me because I have jogging bottoms on without even speaking to me, says more about them than it does myself.

I've had my hood up a few mornings when I drive into work, but again, it's just cause my head is freezing. But yeah, in the summer it's nonsense. Unless it's raining.

The public are suspicious of people in hoodies, because for years they have had reason to.

They didn't wake up one day and decide to randomly start assuming people walking around in a hoodie are suspect. It's the standard dress for criminals hiding their face from CCTV.

pull up their trousers

I saw a black in Newcastle bus station a week or so ago who had his jeans actually sat under his arse cheeks. Yes he had boxers on, but his actual arse was hanging over the waistband and he was walking around with one hand in a pocket (presumably to hold his jeans up) and the other thrust down the front where it looked like he was holding his junk. The mind ******* boggles, it really does.

The **** is this!

:D
