Looking For an Excuse to NOT buy an RTX 2080

Got a new 2k monitor and loving it. Now I'm wanting a 2080 to drive it but I have a 1070 ATM (non ti) which is doing ok.
I know I don't want to spend that kind of money but I've got that urge, you know that urge we get as pathetic followers of the PC path?
Next year or even the end of this year may see 7nm GPU's from nVIDIA and no doubt I'll then be kicking myself if I buy a 2080 now.
I'm not a rich guy, I'm not well poor. I'm an average earner that saves money for PC parts. It's a hobby.
I need someone to convince me NOT to buy :)

2080 is basically a 1080ti ie about 50% faster than a 1070
a new one retails for £650-700
selling your 1070 will net you £150-200 after ebay fees.
up to you if you think spending £450-550 is worth that gains. i wouldn't.

I went from 1070 Ti to 2080 and definitely don't regret it. I was even prepared to buy the 2080 Ti but glad I bought the 2080 for 1440P gaming. I'll probably go Ti next gen.
Have to decide for yourself. Pro's and con's. Do you have the RT and DLSS games that are now out? do you want to try them with RT?
Waiting for next gen would be a good decision BUT who knows when that is and if you fancy an upgrade now and want to try RT and DLSS and be part of the evolving technology then why not?

Well just 2 games support it

And RTX gimps FPS and DLSS is a blurry mess...

So why bother?

If you're looking for a reason not to buy it you probably shouldn't buy it. Wait until there's something you will be happy buying, it will make you feel better.

In the meanwhile just turn down a setting or two. Or go from ultra to very high. That's what I generally did at 1440p with a 1070 and only had to upgrade when I went 3440x1440.

Don't think you would regret it too much really, and has more than enough vram for 4k gaming, Ive been surprised at how many games I can play @4k on almost ultra settings with my 2070, if you have the cash burning a hole in ya pocket then why not?

DLSS is a blurry mess atm I agree. As I said tho, "be part of the evolving technology". :) Those who bother to read up on it and take of their anti-20 series hats see it has good potential, ie, it's more than just upscaling from a lower res and should (should :) ) improve.
2080 is 1080 Ti money not that long ago. Fair play to folks who keep their money in their pocket until next gen but if someone needs/wants an upgrade now...….

which is why it's overpriced?
1080ti performance for 1080ti money nearly 2 years after 1080ti launch. What's there not to like?
Erm, it's faster, uses less power, has 2-3 years further R&D and has RT and DLSS to try IF people want to try it :D. Forget pre -RT FPS, those days are gone. FPS is rebased with RT. Futures steps in FPS gain might be smaller too while RT evolves rapidly for the next few gens although DLSS as it improves will help raise it too.
Thing is, what are the alternatives? You cannot get a 1080 Ti for £580 or whatever again now, when it was discounted before going EOL. OP has the choice of a 2080 or staying with 1070.

The 1080Ti was $699.
The 2080Ti is $1199

Let me know when you are gonna realize they are bending you over and giving you a glove with no lube?

The 2080 is the substitute card. You shouldn't reward greed.

Erm, it's faster
yes, there's a marginal difference, albeit 8-10%, then yes, the 2080 is faster
uses less power
again, we're talking sub-50w difference...doesn't make much difference to leccy bills :)
has 2-3 years further R&D
and how does that impact the end user?
RT and DLSS to try IF people want to try it :D
all of 2 games for RT...at 1080p? lol
and DLSS is basically upscaling. let's call a spade a spade.
