Hi all,

It's been a good 5-6 years since I last upgraded my PC so i just have a few questions.......

I'll be gaming at 1080p using a gtx 1060 6GB or amd rx580, either of these better than the other?

DDR4 RAM 2666 or is it noticeable and worth getting 3200?

Looking at an Intel 8400 CPU - I wont be overclocking so is the stock Intel cooler fine or is it worth upgrading to something else?

Thanks is in advance for your help.

Hi

A Ryzen build would be a cheaper option for 1080p if you are pairing it with a lower end gpu such as the GTX 1060 or RX 580 etc. I would go with the 580 over the 1060 as it is currently a bit cheaper on here, and you get 8GB Vram vs 6GB on the 1060.

So something along these lines. Pretty decent stock cooler with Ryzen.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £566.02 (includes shipping: £11.10)

Forgot to mention, there are new Ryzen cpu's coming out around June. There will also be new boards as well. No set date as yet but should hear more info when Computex is on at the end of May.

That sounds like Haswell, which isn't that bad CPU at all yet if it is i7 model...
Thanks to Intel having made no real advance of really any kind until forced by AMD.

And stock Intel coolers are pretty much crap if you care about noise least bit.
Unless Intel has actually started to use more than absolute minimum money on them.
Which is about as likely as finding skiing trail in Sahara.

If you can't wait for summer, AM4 platform would be better for future
Just can't see platform as good buy, if it can't be updated to be clearly more powerfull than next-gen consoles.
