New Build for 4K and VR Gaming

Ok, so progress being made! Hopefully I’ve not screwed up. So far I’ve purchased,

1 x Samsung Evo 860 1TB SSD (got a great deal)
1 x Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Pro WiFi
1 x Corsair H115i pro rgb refurb
2 x Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB DDR4 3000mhz
1 x Corsair TX-M series 650 80 Plus Gold PSU

Trying to decide upon a case is doing my brain in, if I can save a bit here, I will throw a bit more at the processor. The i5 9600k represents very good value, but the i7 9700k May stand me in better stead going forward. I understand there is little between them re perf.

The BeQuiet 601 seems to lack a USB C which I wouldn’t mind having going forward for VR.

I think I’ve all but decided on the RTX2080 over the ti and EVGA seem to have a great rep.

heads up, RTX cards have USB C ports on the back - so dont have to worry too much ...

If you are after a case with USB C- lan li lancool is the cheapest at £80 odd and RGB which can be digital or standard RGB

i'd push the 9700k- same as it was £360 a few days ago.

8700k is the middle ground and shows more cores equals less cores/more threads but should perform slightly under 9700k at stock. if you can oveclock to 5ghz all cores should be fine, again- have to find a good price for it

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £210.84 (includes shipping: £15.90)

My gut feeling was to push for the i7, it’s a bit more expensive than that at the minute.

The Phanteks Enthoo pro M glass seems to get a good write up. Too much choice o be fair.

I’ve ended up going for a Fractal Design Meshify C Tempered Glass ATX White case. Looks a great case in terms of ventilation and good for expansion etc very good reviews and price as well.

:)
Get some snaps up !

Check GPU clearance if AIO/CLC in the front

I will do for sure so you all can have a giggle at my “attempt!”

My 2nd hand rift arrived and it looks like new, can’t wait to try my rig out!

Gutted that the new AMD GPU is “buggy” to say the least, NVIDIA can charge what they want!

Ok, so changed my case. A few people have been caught out with the Meshify not being able to fit an RTX and the H115i pro.

I’ve gone for the Phanteks Enthoo Pro M Tempered Glass, MUCH more space and similar cooling and cable management.

I’ve also ordered the i7 9700k, little point going for the 9900k given it runs hotter and little improvement for gaming from what I’ve read.

Just the GPU to go

Saving on 9900k should help with GPU :)

I need all the help I can get! Keeping my eye out for a bargain GTX 1080ti and watching the prices of the top 2 RTX’s.

The 2080 has been as low as £540 ish off the top of my head, but ideally i want an EVGA.

My build comes in at £1630 ish using a 2080 and £1960 with a 2080ti.

My gut says, 2080ti. But 1k plus for the EVGA....

If your 4k gaming and can justify the amount of time you'll be gaming on it, then 2080ti .
2080 if you can live with constantly searching for the best settings to get high FPS and visuals

In for a penny I guess, is there much difference in the 2080ti line up? obviously prices may vary!

It’s the VR which is pushing me toward the ti, IF we get into it and want to upgrade our headset for higher res, I will need to upgrade anyway, so spending the extra £400 or so now, probably is the way forward.

I’m away a lot with work, so can’t justify purchase on how much time I’ll spend on it, just on the quality of that experience when I get on it and future enhancements.

I forgot to ask, I plan to OC my 9700k, given my specs and intended use of VR, will the 650w Gold Corsair be sufficient, or should I return whilst I have the chance and swap for a 750w or 850w supply? Having read up, it appears that the 2080ti OC with OC CPU and VR could push 650w.

2080 is 650w and 2080ti is 750w. is at default you'd be fine but overclocking , the 2080ti and 9700k TDP does increase . you'd be looking at 635-49w load

Just bought the GPU, spent a bit more than planned here, but I hope I’ve made the correct call. Went for the ASUS Rog Strix 2080 ti OC edition, seems to be in the top 3 2080 ti cards out there at the moment. Wanted ideally EVGA or Gigabyte because of their excellent warranties, however, the FTW3 had only one HDMI so another expense would be a USB C converter for my rift, and the Aorus Xtreme just runs too hot ( 10-15*c over the Asus) and is generally a lot noisier than the Strix. Spent an unreal amount of time researching!

Way too much money for a GPU (£1325), but that’s the cost right now and supply is limited across Europe, it’s not like a 1080 ti is better value now! I saved in other areas of the build, such as the refurb liquid cooler and can always upgrade the RAM etc at a later date. I invested heavily in the CPU, PSU and GPU.

Thanks for the advice, I hope I’ve made some good choices.

should have just got the Gigabyte Gaming, 2.5 slot cooler and 4 year warranty for £1070 on sale . Have 2080 Aorus and max is 70c when pushing it at 4k but do have 3 silent wing case fans underneath it

I had considered that, but wanted to stay away from the reference edition PCB, seems to be causing most of the 2080 issues.

I see what you mean - its not until Ver 2.0 do gigabyte make their own PCB based on reference design. How Nvidia make a lot of cash at the start , that and withholding engineering samples to the last moment :(
