Upgrade Advice - A few questions if I may :)

fair enough. thing is, 6c6t 9600k/8600k is going to be somewhat anaemic in the not too distant future...with multicore computing now becoming more common.
8c8t will last you longer. up to you i guess.
it's also not as if you couldn't ask ocuk to build you the custom spec (which some people do)

true in applications such as video editing , still poor in gaming- all 2019 launches should be DX12 - but then that gives intel i7 4 cores more life span due to better coding . DX11 still mainstay and even still, in theory more cores should work better but still down to fastest cores :(

def agree though if you can afford to go 8 core, go 8 CORE! specially 9700+ 200 :)

nice to see though AMD SMT is stronger then Hperthreading but still rather have core counts , with threads as after thoughts

for now though. OP kept his 3570k pretty long (ie 2012-2019 - 6.5-7 years), if he wants to do the same for his new rig, 9600k is not the answer.
at least not with amd releasing 12c24t, 16t32t mainstream parts soon! :P

WOW just kept 4 core i7 around for another 8 years haha. though the update has done wonders for AMD Rzyen too (25% increase i think )! goes to show developers can caterer for any hardware if they put their minds to it

used to be chicken and egg...hardware won't have more cores because devs won't code for it, and vice versa.
but if there's hardware for it, maybe now devs will code for multicore computing.
