hey I've had it since 2005 .. most of the time it plays nice does a minor flare up every yr or so ..
but fri night after a couple of rums .. omg ..
so went thru my normal routine just drinking water, buscopan pain meds..
by sunday night agony could not keep anything down ,runs, shivering like it's minus 50 .. yeah best of times ..
so down to the walk-in centre, which sent me to hossy ..4 hr's later I'm on a drip and anti-biotic's
they kicked me out this morning with another bag of anti-biotics ..
now just have to wait for it all to calm down .. good news is I lost a bit of weight ..
anyone else wants to join in feel free ..
would love to hear how you cope

Had it, got it removed.

I was collapsing and all sorts randomly, hospitalised a few times, discharged because they thought I was on drugs and couldn't find it what was wrong lol

Eventually they found out what it was and got it removed, touch wood nothings happened.

However they also took my appendix, thieving whatsits

Had to google it, sounds unpleasant. It sounds straightforward to treat thankfully.
I had gastroenteritis once and that was pretty bad.
NHS says it happens when you’re older although helpfully it doesn’t specify an age range.

Yup had it for close to 20 years. 95% of the time it's fairly benign with just the odd run of a few days when it becomes very sore with all the rest of the symptoms that go with it. When it does become infected its savage. On occasion,I've passed so much blood it made me anaemic and needed several courses of antibiotics to quell it. It's not nice. Thankfully it doesn't flare up too often. Last time was just after xmas but prior to that it's been 2-3 years with little more than niggles.

So they took your appendix but not anything else?
yeah they thought it was that at first ..it was only after it happened again and had the camera they confirmed it ..

delvis what was the recovery time on yours when you had it out ?
I'm looking at about a half foot length

I'm on blood thinners for my dodgy ticker, it just exacerbates things a bit. I've had times when it's flared up and been horrific, but compared to 10 or so years back, mine is way more subdued nowadays. I'm told by the consultant that the stomach/bowel/skin are generally pretty sensitive to stress. So tend to get worse when you have other things going on. I've got a couple of foods that I avoid because I know they trigger it for me. Fresh strawberries and coleslaw (Not together, lol) But I've heard folk list all-sorts, so I guess it's a matter of finding the stuff that trigger you personally, we are all different. One biggy is to keep hydrated, but that's common sense really.

Anyway, hopefully it will settle for you. I know it's difficult to see past when you're in its grip.

Few weeks post op, wasn't supposed to lift anything for a month or something. It was the initial week that was a pain.

Punctuation and grammar, it seems.

:p

Is that aimed at me? Grammar has never been my strong point, and I've had like four hours sleep after a 22 hour day :p

"Diverticulosis is common in people over age 60. It doesn’t happen often to those younger than 30. Experts think the pouches show more with age. Men might get it more than women.
Research shows the condition might be genetic. That means you’re more likely to get it if your parents or any of your brothers or sisters have it."

I've had it for about 12 years now I get 1 or 2 "attacks" a year . January this year got me good 4 days in bed with diarrhea and vomiting lost 6lbs , doctor gave me metronidazole 400mgs which I couldnt keep down . I should have gone hospital but luckily I managed to keep some water down on 4th day so decided not to go . Next time if its that bad its straight to hospital for me

yeah I normally just leave it 2-3 days if it does not look like it's getting better straight to the doc's or walk-in .
they have me on co-amoxiclav for the next 7 days .. and it's working :)

thx for sharing

I go down that path. If it's just niggling I give it a few days to see if it settles, and maybe fast or eat light meals. If it starts to feel like an infection it normally needs co-amoxiclav. When it's been very bad that's been in combination with metronidazole. I feel for anyone who suffers from it, it can make you really miserable.
