Hi all - I've just been assembling my pump, cover and pump top. I've got a Singularity Computers pump top, pump cover and am using a D5 tacho pump from Aqua Computer, bought from OCUK:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £82.69 (includes shipping: £8.70)

I'm assembling it as per this video here:

In that video, they EK D5 pump seems to require a little bit of effort to get it into the pump top. My Aqua Computer pump literally just slides in. I've got the rubber washer that came with the pump top in, but as this is my first ever loop, after watching that video, I was surprised it went in so easily (ahem) :D:D

I guess I am after some reassurance that it's not going to leak everywhere when I first prime the loop!

Also, the D5 pump (a Laing pump) is set to position 2 on the speed dial. Is this the best setting to leave it on for a loop that at the moment will be a single 360mm radiator cooling just a CPU?

Cheers :)

Take it outside the rig, connect a tube from out back to in and test it... it should be fine though as almost all the branded pumps are made by the same company or sub brands there of.

Laing, Lowara, Xylem all part of Xylem - the EK used to be Lowara/Xylem so same. As long as the bracket is applying pressure to the pump it will likely be sealing on the ring - presume you mean it dropped in easy but was firm to screw shut near the end of the thread?

Hi Smffy - yes,the pump dropped in easy as it were and the pump cover tightens down on the pump top to hold in situ. From what you're saying, sounds like I have nothing to worry about - just me being paranoid as it's my first custom loop. Ta :)

For about £1 you can buy a 24 pin bridge connector which allows you to power the PSU and test outside the expensive components if you would like...

For example
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/xspc-psu-bridging-connector-24-pin-wc-021-ok.html

Bridging the pins means the Molex connector on the pump will deliver power without the board or CPU being powered on. You can test it out the case then by making a test loop.

Just run it outside the case if you can with a tube from the outlet up to the res with the whole thing held vertically so the pump is at the bottom. Just fill it first to see if there's an obvious problem with the fitting. then run the pump for ten minutes or so. Just to be safe.

So I've been taking it slowly putting all this stuff together - it's my first ever water loop of any sort, let alone a custom one. It took a long time due to waiting for Barrow fittings from China, then finding that I needed some extensions, then finding that I needed fitting X, then finding I needed fitting Y, then finding I needed fitting Z - it seemed to go on for ever! :D

I am particularly pleased with the plumbing from the top right port of the radiator - it is virtually all Barrow fittings, with just a small section of tube. I've had it running for a minute outside of my PC, seems OK. Will run it some more to check for leaks and get rid of air pockets, but I will need to drain it down to add the CPU block later anyway.

Very pleased with it - virtually silent and may be able to drop down the speed on the vario D5 pump later as well.

you can get Barrow from Mizucooling on eBay. next day delivery and decent prices.

Looks good. remember that with a res mounted to a radiator the fluid is getting slightly heated.

Thanks @MikeTimbers :)

Had it running for a bit outside of the case, no apparent leaks so next will be fitting the the XSPC Raystorm Pro waterblock to the CPU and finishing the install off.

With the Barrow fittings, I noticed another water cooling shop now sales Barrow fittings as well, as a UK distributor. They are a competitor of sorts, so I best not link them.
