Hi, I have a budget of 2300 GBP. I am looking for a PC and a monitor with G-sync.

I would like to play 1440p AAA games around 60+fps, but also I would like to take advantage of a 144Hz screen for when it comes to esports i.e. 130+fps in 1440p.

Please can people recommend me a spec to build to? I have my own ideas, but I would like to get advice from people who know more than I do.

Thanks in advance

EDIT: Please see below for more information on requirements.

Hi Tamzzy

Apologies. I want to start from scratch, so everything new.

It will be DIY

Motherboard
CPU
CPU Cooler
RAM
GPU
SSD M.2
1 or 2TB
PSU
Keyboard - I really like the look of the MSI Vigor GK80 - but I am open to suggestions
Mouse
Monitor- 1440p 144hz+ 24/27inch - preferably g-sync or free-sync, dependent on GPU I believe?
Case
OS- Windows

Sound card - Are they worth it? Do the creative ones make a difference for gaming?

I understand that this will most likely go over my budget, but I am OK to make sacrifices in areas. I have also noticed that component's prices can vary between sellers... I may have to go to various stores, unless OC can match prices. For instance, the GK80 keyboard is £89.97 on one site

not worth it. just stick with integrated. it's easily good enough, especially the newer ones.

oc won't match, you don't owe any etailers any loyalty, go with the cheapest and most reputable ones - ie ones that won't quibble with RMA.
ocuk's pricing isn't the greatest for some components, i'd have to agree - but if it's only a difference of a few quid, i tend to stick with ocuk as their aftersales support is pretty decent, and that peace of mind is worth the few extra quid.

OS- Windows
there are keys that can be bought for £5-15 if you know where to look. saves a lot of £££ that way.

Monitor- 1440p 144hz+ 24/27inch
any preference to the monitor type? ie TN/IPS/VA?
TN gives the smoothest pixel response, so looks less blurry, but colour reproduction and viewing angles aren't as good as IPS/VA
IPS gives the best colour reproduction and viewing angles, but suffers from some backlight glow (so blacks don't look so black as VA), and middle of the road performance with pixel response.
VA has good colour reproduction and viewing angles, and easily gives the best blacks and contrast, but pixel response tend to be the poorest of the 3 types, and can look blurred/smeary at times

Good to know the sound card is not worth it, thank you. I once had one many years ago and I thought it sounded good, but I guess times change and the integrated ones are just as good.

I really want to stay with OC, I really do. This is why I came to the forums for ideas on the build so I can compare with my ideas and amend them as necessary. I agree, the customer service is important to me.

OS - I had no idea you could do that... wow, that has saved 90 quid already! Thanks

The monitor is a difficult one... I am stuck between TN and IPS, I guess this is where I will make a sacrifice to free up some cash, assuming TN is cheaper? what would you choose?

Thanks for the help by the way

depends on how much you value your esports over all other considerations.
having owned all 3 types of screen, it's definitely noticeable that TN has the fastest response times.
but as i'm not competitive at all, i prefer the better colours and viewing angles that IPS gives.
my current monitor is therefore IPS :P

if you're heavily into your esports and/or play competitively, then TN's your best bet.
if not, then IPS is probably the better choice IMO (others may have differing opinions)

this is probably what i'd get for the budget.
note that the SSD is £45 cheaper elsewhere. i'd get this elsewhere - also has a good aftermarket service reputation, and is named after a rainforest (no competition names rule on the forums, i'm afraid)
this specific rtx 2080 is out of stock currently at ocuk

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,901.91 (includes shipping: £14.10)

I do like competitive play but I have also been craving playing AAA games on ultra. It has been years since I have had the rig to play AAA on ultra. I will most likely look for an IPS, if I can find one that meets my budget.

Thanks for the basket information! I was torn between 2070 and 2080 in my original build, I think it is best to go 2080. I am going to spend some time looking through it now.

Thanks for the help!

Oh one question. Would it be worth going i7 9900k over i5 9900k? I was not entirely sure what fps difference I would get
for pure gaming, 9700k is sufficient. but for longevity, 9900k is preferable, because it has hyperthreading.
9700k = 8 cores, 8 threads
9900k = 8 cores, 16 threads.

Thanks for the new build. This one definitely looks closer to my requirements. I will look into each one and compare with the one I had originally. I think Yours is definitely an improvement to mine.

As for the CPU, I am still undecided... I will compare benchmarks and try to make a decision based on that.

I will come back later, as I am sure I will have more questions!

Thanks bud
