New Build for 4K and VR Gaming

I would hate to comment, but there is a lack of competition in the market place.

Nvidia it is, pay the price they want

I paid the cheapest price possible for this card, but it is hard to argue that it’s value for money.

Yep, think AMD CPU team needs to work some magic of a multicore die for AMD GPUs :)

Hi guys, finally got her started up and windows 10 installed, my problem is my fans seem to be working overtime. I checked my CPU temp in the bios and it is showing 90*C which is obviously not right. The fans on the H115i are certainly spinning and I used grizzly thermal paste on the CPU. Any ideas? I haven’t got a clue! The fans are currently setup to draw air out of the case through the radiator, the radiator is roof mounted. Thanks all.

As an update, the CPU fan is not showing a reading in the BIOS, so I’ve either not connected it correctly or the pump is unserviceable I guess.

Normally you have a PUMP fan header which you'd connect the Pump into and the CPU header for the fans .
Some do it the other way but I prefer it that way .
Set all fans to max in bios and then check RPM being registered, pump rpm will be greater then Fans , and can identify it .
Then set a profile or curve your happy with .

Also, you removed the plastic backing from the copper cold plate ?

Also, try remounting it , and not to much paste

I’ve connected it to the specific CPU fan water pump header. Temp started off at 40 ish and steadily rose before I shutdown again. Almost 1* per second (it was probably faster).

As far as I’m aware I removed all plastic packaging, it was a plastic cover which sat over the copper connection plate.

I spread the thermal paste directly onto the CPU, I wiped clean the pump plate so to remove the stock thermal paste.

I tightened the screws using the correct technique, so it should be mounted correctly.

The 3 case fans are showing around 550, but the rad fans on the cooler were getting ready to take off I reckon!

It is only showing 3 fan read outs.

I’ve ordered a new 115i platinum which arrives tomorrow just in case. I really want to get gaming!

I don’t want to cook my CPU whilst investigating.

Was it the h115 refurb you ordered? corsair rep on here @CorsairChris if any issues should pop up with RMA.

what was the fan profile setting for the Pump header ? was it registering any RPM ?

Yeah it was the refurb unit.

I was advised in the water cooling forum to lightly hold my finger on the pump and power on the PC to feel the pump turn on, I felt nothing.
Dead as a dodo.

I contacted OCUK customer services, so far they’ve been brilliant, it’s all packed up, ready to return for a refund.

My CPU temp went from 30-80 in less than a minute, I set the pump header to full, but it registered no rpm from the cooling system, just the rpms of my case fans.

My GPU temp was 24, quite a difference!

Did you plug the SATA power cable in for the pump? Sounds like if you're only getting fan readings and no pump readings that it isn't powered up.

Yep, SATA connected, RGB lighting illuminated on the pump itself and rad fans operational. I double checked the connection to the MOBO and to the CPU, good contact with even spread of thermal paste.

I assume that the illuminated Corsair logo on the pump means there was power to the pump itself?

The SATA power was good as it was taken off the feed to my SSD which is operating just fine.

Cheers

Does sound like its DOA then, apologies for the inconvenience. Glad OCUK have helped you resolve it quickly.

Let us know how you get on with your H115i Platinum!

Chris, not at all, these things happen. OCUK very quick on the case. I’m just frustrated as I want to get playing lol

My Platinum was meant to be delivered today, but it appears my supplier is letting me down, typical!

When I come to mount it, would you suggest mounting the fans to draw air out of the case through the radiator or drawing air into the case through the radiator? opinions seem split.

Just some feedback (if I may?). There were no instructions or warranty information provided with the unit, not sure if this policy or if it was just a slip up with my unit?

Cheers

Theoretically, it makes more sense to mount the cooler on the air intake, as you're pulling cold air through the radiator, opposed to hot air from the case.

Doesn't make a huge difference either way, i'd mount it however is most aesthetically pleasing in your build!

Thanks for the advice.

So I finally received it and went about fitting it, just tightening the slack on the thumb screws and the thread sheared off one of the stand offs. The rest are fine.

The corsair website shows mounting hardware kit for the 110i but not 115i.

Is it the same given I only want one LGA stand off and appropriate thumb screw?

Cheers

I am researching building a PC to run Oculus rift S VR equipment to play high end graphical VR games.
I have chosen a I7 9770K CPU and a GeForce RTX 2080/ 2070 GPU.
what do you think?

Can you also let me know what would be best for :
1/ Mother board
2/ Power unit size to run it all
3/ what size RAM? split which way to max read speed
4/CPU cooling?
5/ any thing else I need to consider?

My budget is circa £1500?
What would you suggest to get best value for money for me ?

thanks for your time
Matt

@mattspain360, it would be best to start your own thread with the above content entitled, 'Oculus Rift S VR - spec enquiry' - you will get more response and won't confuse an existing thread.

*suggest sticking to regular coloured text as black is difficult to read.

oh ok
new to this:)
tghx
No worries - and welcome.

EDIT: @mattspain360, I should have explained how to do this:
  • Enter the forum you want to start the thread in (this forum is best for your needs).
  • Click on the 'Post New Thread' button in the upper right of the forum
  • Enter your thread title - e.g. Oculus Rift VR - Spec'
  • Copy and post your previous post into the text box below the thread title (change text colour to default and the name of the CPU to 9700K)
  • When you're done press, 'Create Thread'
