Hi all,
After deciding against trying to stick a 2080 into my aging i5 2500k system, I've been given the go ahead to update the following:
Motherboard/Processor/RAM (32Gb, ideally)
GPU (2080/Vega64)⅝
SSD for OS/Main games (250/500Gb M2?)

I have an up to date PSU (Corsair 850W), AIO CPU cooler (NZXT X62), 240Gb SSD for OS, 4Tb storage drive and case (all within the last 18 months).

Prefer EVGA for GPU due to longer warranty and UK based RMA

I've only really just started looking at Ryzen 5 & X470, but several posts here have shown me an Intel build can be just as VFM.
Heres what I have so far:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,364.94 (includes shipping: £0.00)

Look forward to seeing suggestions.

It's for gaming, in my lounge on a 4k TV.
The case sits in an IKEA Besta cabinet (part of my media wall), which has active venting of hot air, via 4 × 120mm Silent Wings fans mounted on the back of the unit.

I've been playing with the config to squeeze in an EVGA 2080Ti Black, by getting a cheaper motherboard and 16Gb 3000mhz Corsair ram, which bumps the price up to £1600 ish - but that's by ordering from multiple e-tailers via PC-Part Picker...

I guess you already have a psu as well ?

This is a bit over, but if you are shopping around then you might be able to get it on/under budget.

this ^^^^ 4 year UK warranty and support with the Gigabytes 2080ti and is 3 fan 2.5 slot vs 2 slot 2 fan of the EVGA. There mobo's are also vendor to be fixed in the UK to. MSI and others are EU

if you can push for the 2600x then do so for clock speed ! unless you've got good aftermarket cooling and want to push 4.2ghz all cores.

at 4k, wouldn't look at anything underneath a 2080 . 2080ti would do 60fps across current AAA titles!

Thank you - was waiting for your response.

I'll get it ordered just as soon as this quarter's pension clears.

Thank you everyone for your time.

Is there any reason I *shouldn't* get 32Gb DDR4 3000mhz (2×16Gb) over 2×8Gb DDR4 3200mhz?

I'm assuming double the ram is more useful than slightly faster ram

16gb is standard for gaming, not a lot of games would push over this unless you like added mods to your games ( use to run a lot of mods with City skylines and would hit 24gb of usage)

you wouldn't notice much difference of 3000hz vs 3200... if going 3200hz , then normally recommend samsung b-die and using ryzen ram calculator to overclock it !

rather have the 2080ti and 2600x with 16gb then dropping those to add more ram.

Ok - I'll save the £100 and get the 16Gb Corsair 3200mhz.

It'll give me room to play when I've read enough to start fiddling.

Thank you for your help, as ever.

Thank you for the heads up - I tried asking if OCUK would pricematch, but can only do one retailer per order.

If I'm going through the faff of individual orders of each component to pricematch, I may as well just give the cheaper retailers my business...

personally, stick to OCUK for bulk order and grab the CPU else where. reason why most of us tend to shop here, their customer service as well as friendly relationship to OEM/Vendors like gigabyte/corsair etc and why rep presence is so strong on here :)

That's been my experience too.

I spoke to the vendor about the Ryzen 2700 deal you mentioned - "that was for yesterday only, sadly".

They've decided that rather than knock £70 off the CPU, it makes sound business sense for me to take the rest of my order elsewhere...

Problem is if it's done for everyone every time , it's soon adds up to a lot of eaten profit .

Forgot, also get 2 free games with the rtx 2080ti. BfV and Anthem

Think metro has been included

Thank you for everyone's help - I put my order in with Sam, who was extremely patient with me.

I decided on:

Went to install last night and discovered my NZXT Kraken X62 doesn't have the AM4 bracket

So I've popped a post up in technical support to find out if OCUK offer one to purchase separately, or a third party equivalent.

I was tempted to just use the stock cooler in the meantime, but it would mean having to rewire and reinstall the radiator and fans a second time - so I've installed what I can in my Cooltek/Jonsbo W2 case, then put it on hold until I can source the AM4 bracket.

Disappointing, but my own fault for not checking first.

Just a quick mention about Ben on OCUK'S Sales line - very knowledgeable and professional chap - it's not often I'm happy about spending close to two grand of my pension, but he and Sam made it a pleasure.

Cheaper, 4 ear UK warranty and rma 2.5 slot vs 3 but triple fan set up

Hi Orb - I did consider the Gigabyte, but the last one sold before I could call and pay for my order, so I opted for the EVGA XC Ultra - my understanding is I can register the card with EVGA and pay €50 to extend the warranty to 10 years:
https://eu.evga.com/support/warranty/extended.asp

Yes, it's a couple of hundred quid difference, but I've experienced EVGA's outstanding aftercare, on more than a few occasions (and certainly had that couple of hundred quid's worth returned).

As I don't get the opportunity to upgrade that frequently (three pesky kids needing stuff like shoes, food, birthday/Xmas presents that mustn't be bought from Poundland, etc), the idea of covering my GPU for the next decade was pretty appealing.

I don't mind posting outside of the UK to claim on it, if needs be - I buy/sell some pretty expensive vape gear all over the globe and provided neither party cheap out on postage or packaging, things get to where they're supposed to be, in the state they were sent.

Thank you again for the time and help you've offered - I'm excited to finish building my rig (just waiting on an AM4 bracket for my Kraken X62 AIO ), so I'll post a pic up once it's done.
