Dvi-d to display port cable ?

Hi im having trouble with my dp cable and was wondering if i bought a cable that is dvi-d to display port ie dvi-d coming out of gpu and display port going in to monitor will i still get 144hz and will i still get freesync or do i just have to use a display port cable ?

normally its display port to display port or HDMI to HDMI is the monitor accepts HDMI freesync (like TVs do)

could be wrong and not sure i'f you'd need an ACTIVE adapter cable to get freesync working

Will my monitor which is 144hz run 144hz with a hdmi at 1080p as i think my display port is playing up ?
