R.I.P Keith Flint

Now it's come out it may have been romance related, I can't help but think of parallels with Anthony Bourdain.

Both seemingly had all they could ever need, both mavericks and innovators in their respective fields, both recovered former drug addicts, both recently left by, or cheated on by high profile, globe trotting, exotic foreign partners working in the arts. With ample opportunity to meet new guys and no shortage of admirers. Add in the extreme long distance aspect to create even more separation angst.

Both still had lots of work lined up so it seems like it would have been impulsive actions in both cases as well.

All speculation on my part but it's starting to make more sense for me now. Poor Keith.

No joke, ‘Their Law at Phoenix Festival’ blew my mind as an impressionable child. It’s probably the most important song ever in terms of defining my musical preferences :eek:

Edit: true story - my parents bought me a set of decks for Christmas until I heard that song and said I wanted a guitar!!! Then I got a guitar and the decks were returned! History changed forever :)

I'd take a pretty accurate guess that he didn't, because if he had something would have come out about it by now.

Having had someone close attempt suicide before, if someone is depressed and thinking suicidal thoughts you don't leave them alone you support them any way possible, even if that means getting help from a 3rd party. They may dispise you at the time but they will be thankful once they are better.

Its totally what obe would do. I will end up checking out at some point. Got stuff sorted out. Go for my daily 10k run hit a Last Rave get home and check put from this planet. All mates of mine know its matter of time.
When someone is planing to check out. He does it on hes own.
Tahts how One of my mates from Poland checked out 2 ueara ago. Went out saturday for drinks sunday morning jit the gym. Monday he was gone.

From what i remember Hes wife was reason why he quit getting destroyed all the time with booze and drugs l. Maybe she was one of not many thi gs keeping him going??

I totally respect hes decision.

Slightly playing devil's advocate.... A livestyle of heavy drugs use leads a lasting impact that later abstinence alone won't undo for many. .

The correlation between drugs use and poor mental health is very strong.

Flint apparently made his decision based on a longstanding personal viewpoint and I don't think he had any kids so I personally don't disrespect his decision if he decided to go out before old age stuck home firmly.

Its the height of irresponsibility to suggest that a lot of people won't suffer severe adverse affects from prolonged drugs use. Your personal anecdote is about as useful as the tales of peoples old grannies who smoked 60 a day and lived to 100... I. E a not useful and disingenuous representation of the effects most will suffer.

Apparently in his pub (yes, I didn't know he had a pub either), there was a "swear box" above the fireplace. It was for anyone who said the inevitable when Keith was tending the coals. :D

I was reading some of the tales that have emerged since his death. Sure, he was a proper mad-man but in normal company he sounds like he was a really lovely guy. So often the case.

Gary Speed was on Match of the Day the night before he hung himself. I remember Lineker etc saying they never saw any weird signs.
 
My best mate killed himself a couple of years ago. In his 40's, a qualified professional in his field, and we'd been mates for over 20yrs. We've been through thick and thin together. He was like my brother. Still feel I should have spotted something but I didn't. He kept it under wraps "like a proper man's man should".

Now he's dead - completely "brown bredders". A ******* nightmare.

He has a great family. I keep in touch with his brother. Every anniversary, his birthday and Christmas. Breaks my heart though, every time.

Don't want to shatter your childhood or anything, but it's "Crack down at sun down". The Song is all about the Public order act of 1994 which effectively put the final nail in the coffin of organising unlicensed outdoor raves. It gave police the right to shut down events instantly and arrest and prosecute event organisers.

You are not alone though,

A friend of mine thought the "Bring it down to earth" sample in Break and Enter was singing "Breeeeaaak and Ennnnnter" From 1994 till around 2007 until I told him.

I was a little young to have experienced The Prodigy in the 90s being born in 88 but I always loved Firestarter and some of their other tracks once I reached an age where I started listening to music and I saw them live circa 2011. Terrible news.

I must admit as soon as I heard this a couple of days back I immediately assumed suicide.

When my brother met them at a bar (and my best friend stroked Keith's hair not realising who he was because she was ****faced), he said that Keith was actually really normal, and Maxim was the 'crazy' one.

Some of the old B-Sides were amazing especially on the imports. I had every single and many imports during the 90s they were all in a box when I moved house and stayed there till about 2 years ago when I decided if they hadn't been unpacked they never would be and I charity shopped them. A bit sad I did that for the first time this week.

Some favorites:
Rythem of Life (One Love single B-Side - I believe this track was meant to be on Jilted Generation but was removed as Liam had too much material for the album when he went to get the CDs pressed also One Love was edited down)

Voodoo People Dust brother remix
Out of Space (Techno underground remix)
Ruff in the Jungle Bizness (Uplifting Vibes Remix)

Pandemonium is the B side to Charly which I have on vinyl. Massively underrated tune, and is in fact one of my favourite Prodigy tracks. Going through a bit of a revival the last few days. Talk about a trip down nostalgia lane.

This tune used to send every club I went to into a frenzy. :D

I don't do drugs anymore but that tune on an E or acid is crazy.
