GDPR encounter, unbelievable!

Just had a GDPR encounter I couldn't believe. I have a HTC U11 and use Blinkfeed which pulls news articles from all over the place, one I attempted to read had the GDPR gate so I deselect everything and continue. I'm then told I have to visit a selection of links to opt out, it was a big list so I counted them... 40 bloody links to opt out of advertising cookies, wtf?

If I come across a site like that I just close the site and move on to a different one. I think they do it to make it inconvenient, hoping most people will just give up and click accept.

Yeh I meant that. I know what you mean. Nobody can be expected to read through all of the Cookies before entering a site, it's just crazy.

Actually after looking at it properly I think this addon just removes the banner.

If I get a site like that, I just close it and find whatever I needed elsewhere - same goes for anything that has annoying adverts, or pleas for me to disable my ad blocker.

I've installed nano defender, suggested on here, alongside UBO and not had any site pick up my adblock since

Assuming you're running a decent ad blocker already, just set your browser to block all third party cookies and enable first party isolation (if it isn't already). Job jobbed. It doesn't matter what you click on the popup then (if you see it at all) because your browser simply won't accept the myriad nonsensical cookies anyway. On the rare occasion you need third party cookies for a site to function properly (and I only know of iCloud that's like this) you can just click the icon in the URL bar and allow them on a per-site basis.

I came across a terrible system / provider when I went to a Yahoo website of some kind. Eugh.

I've noticed out daily echo website will give the pop up every 10 visits or so, as if its forgotton your preferences. It has a button saying I Agree To Everything and a button saying customised, if you hit customised it has actually remebered your preferences. The cheeky sods just hope you click I agree as if you've changed your mind!

For the UK this is not GDPR - it is the Data Protection Act 2018, as this enacted GDPR into UK law.

If a UK site or organisation is talking about GDPR in anything other than layman terminology to help a person understand then there's a question as to the accuracy of their interpretation of the law.
