Two tone beep/buzzer but still working

a few nights ago my pc started doing the two tone warning noise when powered up....opened the case and unplugged/checked ram, connections etc - it eventually stopped making the noise after a few tries on and off

did the same today but I just left it running to see if windows would start - the buzzer stopped before windows had finished loading and has been fine since, so I don't thinkl unplugging/checking everything had anything to do with it starting working again earlier in the week

any ideas what the problem could be?

it's a really old build - E8400 8800GTX IP35 board. PSU was changed almost two years ago with a £20 el cheapo from Amazon

something I noticed...usually when I switch on the PC the cpu fan goes full speed for about one second...then there's a single beep and it goes back down to whatever it's set to (in the bios I think?)

the two tone sound only starts after the fan has slowed down, not as soon as you press the power button but yes it continued until the windows loading screen started

another point - after it stopped beeping on Thursday I could shutdown/restart no probs, then next day it was back to making the noise, then noise eventually stopped, could restart no probs...next day noise was back...rinse repeat

just looking back at an old thread of mine I had a similar problem shortly before the PSU died

yes....I've been reading some other threads and 'waiting until summer' gets mentioned

what exactly is happening/getting released in summer? I'd want to stay with intel/nvidia I think

I'd want to stay with intel/nvidia I think

Any reason? - the stuff we're all waiting for in the summer is mainly AMD on the CPU and GPU side :P

AMD (particularly the ryzen CPUs) have really shaken up the game in the last two years and the upcoming Zen2 (Ryzen 3xxx series) are rumoured to bring AMD back in to competition for high end gaming use (they're not too far off now, but Intel's Coffee Lake architecture, especially the later 9 series are still faster at this point, albeit twice as expensive!)

Personally I'm looking forward to being able to upgrade my CPU without having to buy a new MB and RAM, as the 3xxx series should be a good jump in clock speeds from my first gen ryzen, and am hoping that Navi will give a viable upgrade from my GTX 1070 (or at least shake up prices of the RTX/Vega/Radeon VII series enough to make it worth an upgrade!)

just familiarity really, and the fact this (intel/nvidia) pc is still going after 10+ years - only built 3 or 4 pc's but they've all been intel/nvidia.......not oppsosed to go AMD cpu and gfx if there was an overwhelming reason tho. I'd be looking to spend ~£400 on mb/cpu and maybe £500 on gfx.(fairly random thought process on that!)
the 'two tone' warning problem has changed a bit now btw...when you switch the PC on for the first time every day it does one loop of the warning noise then stops..hoprfully it stays like that

It should tell you in the manual what the beeps mean

i had problem ages ago turned out the gpu was'nt seated properly ...7 short beeps and 1 long one if i remember right

I’ve not but will give it a try if the problem gets worse.
This morning it only did the first half of the two tone warning noise then worked fine..maybe temp related as heating was on + sun pretty bright today
