NVIDIA To Move Mobile Kepler GPUs to Legacy Status in April 2019 (& 3D Vision Too)

VR has replaced 3D, although in some games, 3D was very very good. Since getting my Pimax 5K+, I haven't looked back and games are amazing, although you really do need a 2080Ti to power it.

Tbh I can see the same thing happening to VR I don't think the demand is high enough, its also very pricey.
Even the games are not all that good, they really isn't any stand out title that make you want to buy into VR.

VR will get cheaper and eventually more games will get released. Games coming out now would have started development when VR was in early stages so lack support.

FO4 VR would have been amazing if the controller implementation was any good, but it is a pre-VR game with a mod basically.

Last version of the hardware was 2011, I'm surprised they havnt moved it to legacy way befote now. I suppose VR has eclipsed it somewhat though.
VR this time round, launched in 2016, so does that mean about 2026 and it will be done aswell, we have a while to wait to find out.

I agree with you. No amount of immersive gameplay positives will deter the fact it will be a niche market. Its too expensive, the balance with having the right GPU against the high res VR units puts people off price way. Only way VR will take off is if the processing is done in the helmet all in one which is a long way off although some like Samsung are trying. Valves new helmet will be interesting to see but I wont be buying VR now or in the future its just not for me.

Not sure why you think headsets are called helmets and stand alone headsets already exist.

VR is awesome and the most impressive gaming tech I have used in a very long time.

It's not for everyone. VR advocates need to appreciate this. Some of us just aren't interested and don't want to wear any kind of headset.

That's fair enough, I was of the same mind set until I gave it a punt two xmas"s ago. My point is that there is a lot of misconceptions when it comes to VR.

I don't play a lot of first-person games, so even if the tech was perfect and the cost was low, it would be of very limited appeal (to me).

I did once simulate the experience by placing a bucket on my head.

Simulation games alone have secured the future of VR. Its a game changer and there is no going back to pancake mode for flight and driving sims after experiencing VR.

If you place buckets on your head I would be at a total loss on what to recommend for you as good entertainment. :p

There's no doubt it has its fans and equally has its place (if somewhat niche) in the market.

Will VR every get mass-market adoption? I somehow doubt it.

Whereas the masses will these days quite happily play a game (phone, browser or console/PC), how many would be happy to stick a headset/bucket on their bonce? I think that's a fairly significant barrier to entry preventing many from bothering with it.

I think we'll continue to see VR and its advocates making positive noises about it. I just don't think it will really take off beyond a small core audience.

Well I hope it doesn't die and when you say "the games are not all that good", I have to say rubbish! When you play Elite Dangerous, PCars, Ethan Carter or even just watch a film on it, it is certainly worth the cost to me and many others.

Indeed it is but I tend not to generalise because others might like or dislike something. I personally have bought 3 VR headsets (DK2/CV1/Pimax 5K+) and know of quite a few others who have done the same and the immersion factor is stunning. Generally those that don't like it have never used it.

Gameplay is far more important than graphics.

At the moment I am playing a lot of Baldurs Gate II on a RTX Titan SLI setup as it is far more fun than any of the latest games.:)

I have tried VR and it still doesn't make me want to go and buy! I do agree though the immersion can be excellent defo in car sim games. Am more interested in AR than VR and can defo get behind that tech when/if it becomes mainstream.

Dont recall me ever saying otherwise. Gameplay has always been the factor over graphics. I play games all the time that have rubbish graphics and still fully enjoy them. This doens't change the fact VR is a niche market and you will struggle to find a true AAA VR only experience.

I totally agree.:)
