Having a discussion with a friend and I think we are both in quite unique "camps", so wanted to see what the wider audience is doing.

What's your preferred/main messaging platform?

I used to be all about the iMessage, but since not everyone has an iPhone, and pretty much everyone seems to have WhatsApp, I now use WhatsApp more. However, a friend of mine doesn't see the point of WhatsApp and says he would just use FB messenger instead. I'm not convinced FB messenger is a substitute for WhatsApp or iMessage. but maybe I'm wrong and everyone is using it more than WhatsApp.

I hate them all but my friends insist on using WhatsApp, so we use that.
Messenger, Whatsapp, Instagram are going to merge together anyway so you can use whichever you prefer.

I’ve been using Whatsapp since it came out pretty much. It predates iMessages etc.. AFAIK. I remember a few years back telling friends to get it, stop wasting texts etc.. now everyone seems to have it. Like for any social event etc... you can just create a Whatsapp group.

What's App and Facebook Messenger will become one eventually.

Seems unlikely now that GDPR rules have put a stop to the platform integration, at least in the EU.

Personally I use Whatsapp for majority of group messaging. Facebook Messenger is generally just single conversations and rarely.

Anyone know when this merger is happening (can't google at the mo' as at work). I'm not overly keen on FB but keep it for group chats/messenger so would love to be able to ditch it and just use whatsapp

Signal works well, slowly gaining a userbase.

I can't see another app replacing WhatsApp for quite sometime, unless FB decide to tank their app. I could install Signal but I doubt I could convince my friends, parents or family to install it.

I use both daily but I'd say WhatsApp is the main one. Been using it for years now, ever since the Blackberry Messenger days!

I'd say most of my messaging is done through Whatsapp. I iMessage a few people but for the most part 90% is WA. I haven't used Facebook in about 5 years so never bothered with messenger.

As others have said I don't see Whatsapp being overtaken for some time just yet. Whatsapp and Wickr basically have it all covered.

I am said friend :)

I never have been a fan of WhatsApp, everyone I contact with has FB Messenger or iMessaging, and I have almost 0 need for whatsapp so prefer not to use it. Add to this I feel that WhatsApp just doesn't look good, this is a small thing that many wont care about, but to me it makes a difference between wanting to use something and not.

I remember my friends telling me I was silly getting WhatsApp when it was a paid app something like £2.50 for a couple of years. We got it for family photo sharing. Look where it is now. Can't remember the last time I got a Facebook message tbh.

FB messenger for family, WhatsApp for friends

This happened because my sister's kept changing their numbers I can't be bothered with that (same number since I can't remember!)
