2060, 2070, or 2080Ti?

Hello. I am looking at upgrading from a GTX 970. But have three options, obviously of very different budgets.

This is a huge purchase/decision for me, so want to make sure I do it right. Is throwing everything into the GPU the right way to go?

I have an i7 4790K and 16GB DDR3 Memory, ASUS Gaming Z97 Gaming 7 Board - 750W PSU.

Bottlenecking will be

36% on the 2080Ti
22% on the 2070
1% on the GTX 970 I currently have.

Been told I wont notice the bottleneck by someone - will be using the system for running racing sims. Mainly rFactor2 in VR. Is this true?

If I upgrade the GPU, I wont be able to afford to upgrade the other stuff and vice versa. Whats the best middle ground to go for. I also dont want to be forking out a load of cash again in 2 years time.

I'm happy with any GPU upgrade, but it has to be worth it. Or is it best to go new processor, bit more ram and one of the lower end GPU's?

What's peoples suggestions for best way forward.

Thanks!

Marc.

1980 x 1080, dual/sometimes triples. Never overclocked anything - too scared! my hunch is also the 2070 at the moment. Or a 2060 and a new CPU.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £509.89 (includes shipping: £9.90)

4 year warranty ^^^ @GIGA-Man and @Gibbo might want to reconfirm this as site stating 3 years for Gaming

seems some have been having fail rates with Turing so rather push extra £40 for 4 year UK warranty

Thread i think above gave good indication, though 970 is more powerful then 960... 2070 blows it out the water !

The 2070 would be great choice if you can afford it - and you still have a very respectable CPU. If you clock it you will reduce the 'imperceiveable' bottlenecking and increase your FPS for gratis. WIn win...

And Giigabyte does come with fringe benefits that orbi and I like a lot.

overclock as @Plec mentioned... get a good cooler if your USING STOCK or a £20 cheap one!

asus even has auto OC which you can use if your lazy :D

plus with new VR headsets sporting higher Pixels...dont want to be left behind the grid.....

Your new GPU will blow before your 4790K - even with a moderate clock. Don't be worried about clocking it's a simple process especially if you target a moderate clock.

Shut your eyes, cover your ears and start making lah, lah sounds to the above.

A moderate manual over clock is easy to achieve and no bloat ware...( :p @orbitalwalsh ) There are loads of guides out there and if you need more guidance there's an overclocking forum on these very boards.

The bottleneck depends on your target framerate and display resolution, this will also depend on how each game performs and how they benefit with additional cores; or don't which is usually the case.

If you're targeting a consistent 144/165 FPS then you will notice the bottleneck, otherwise probably not.

The 4790K can run hot with even minor voltage increases so unless you have some decent cooling don't aim for more than 4.6GHz.

let us know how you get on ! run your VR at min and max options then whack in the rtx 2070 :D
Currently all on low for rFactor2 in VR, Max on triples.

What make/model is that power supply ?
Corsair one, only a couple of months CX750 ATX.

Aiming for 90FPS - at the moment the VR locks it on 45FPS due to ASW.

Yep, the jump in performance will be very satisfying. Changing to the latest and greatest GPU has to be on of the most exciting upgrades for an ageing computer - especially when coming from a significantly older card.

You should really enjoy the boost in performance - and when coupled with your newly applied *cough* moderate, easy clock *cough*.
