I think this is one example where celebrity power has enabled the issues to be raised here and actually become newsworthy.
I doubt this would be front page news on the BBC today if Clooney, Ellen and others had not called the boycott.

The boycott itself is meaningless of course, The Sultan doesn't care about the profits of those hotels - I'm sure the land they are on alone is worth the investment hold.

I'm not against people having a religion, even backward ones as long as they aren't allowed to oppress other people with it. We just need to ensure things like Sharia Law never creep into government policy and stand for individual liberty (not pack mentality) under the rule of law instead, but even that needs people to be vigilant of the laws being passed. The problem today is laws are continually being passed under various different guises (hate, safety, security) which attack on our freedoms.

It's not 2019 in the Islamic world though, that's the Christian Calendar, other parts of the world have dating systems based on their own religion. right now the Islamic year is Anno Hegira 1440
Now you know why they are still in the dark ages!

Neither am I but that doesn't mean there are no Christians anywhere who would not justify it, after all it was not that long ago that Christians were using the bible to justify slavery. ;)

Don't know really why people have such a downer on slavery really.

Slavery has been a staple of civilization ever since civilization was invented.

The thing that is unusual about the modern world is that we do not have slavery

(Weill , not officially anyways. The Steam engine removed many of the more basic economic benefits of slavery, and the others have been supplanted by the culture of life time indebtedness. It is much easier to exploit people if you can con them into thinking that they are free! :confused:)

Jesus literally said he who has not sinned should throw the first stone, its one of his best known quotes, there isn't an equivalence here between Christianity and Islam that you're trying to suggest

I was deadly serious. This country has been enriched by countless waves of immigration from the third world! What would the working class eat if we didn't have take-away's? Sure, we've had to suffer the odd rape gang, terrorist attack or attack on our way of life... but come on! Can you imagine life without a kebab or curry?
