Some budget upgrade advice please

Hey everyone... Been a while since I've been in here!

I have really neglected my PC recently. I don't think I've opened it up for maybe 2-3 years and it is starting to run like crap. I'm gonna reinstall windows and properly clean it all out over the weekend, but even with that I don't think it is really cutting it now.
I only really use it for gaming, and I think my gtx 979 is still fine, as I only game at 1920x1080, but I'm wondering if I can get a decent cpu/mobo upgrade, maybe keep the mibo and just get a better cpu?

My current set up is this--

AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8350 Black Edition 4.00GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard
8gb ram
Antec truepower 750w
Gtx 970


I really can't spend too much atm, and tbh I'm not looking for a top notch 4k gaming rig....just want to play at 1080p and get good performance

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks all

cheapest to upgrade the CPU and see increase of FPS without touching the GPU.
also replaces the aging PSU

if you were at 1440p, would have said GPU would have got good gains but that FX CPU still would have been holding back its full potential​
 
Yeah I've just seen that. Damn.

Is a ryzen bundle definitely the way to go considering I can't spend a fortune? I suppose all am3+ are outdated now... My 8350 gets ridiculously hot now.

It really was surprising to me when I checked my ocuk account and saw the last time I upgraded(apart from gpu) was 2014!

Yeah I can't afford that big an upgrade atm unfortunately. I hope the bundle becomes available again soon, even without the discount it looks good to me... Or I might upgrade in bits when I can.

Would you say the psu needs upgrading?

Zen2 out first week of July.
Might see good deals on !!

Also, PSU can hold out a little longer
