Please tell me this is an April fools joke? New Ford Puma

If it is it's a few days late.

Not really sure what the issue is though. Ford don't really have a small SUV in their lineup (Thinking GLA, CX3, Q2 etc)

And they'll print money. We might not like it but like the Juke, Ecosport, that Vauxhall thing, these will sell in droves.

It will indeed, however they didn't need to soil the Puma name by turning what was a sporty coupé into a wet blanket. They could have just as easily called it the Ford Ocelot, it's not as if they are going to gain market share from someone reliving their teenage years by wanting back into a Puma.

What's next, the Ford Capri pickup truck?

:(

That's worse that the ruination of the Nissan Pulsar.

Yes? I take it you've never driven one, they were great fun. Heck the Racing Puma (as much as I used to make fun of Sam for owning one) was utterly superb.

Nope just remember seeing them around and thinking they looked horrendous. After googling the 1.7l looks like it could be quite good fun.

Back in ye ol' days of yore it was always very simple.

"Hi which track car pls, cheap, fun, loads of parts etc"

"RWD? MX5. FWD? Puma".

Good fun cars but you could almost hear them rotting around you which I guess is why they're relatively rare nowadays.

Had no idea, I just remember seeing them around looking knackered or been driven on school runs. I take back my previous statement!

Oh sorry I wasn't trying to be a smartass, was just pointing out that 10 years ago they were the go-to car for cheap track thrills. Stripped out they weighed as much as a paperclip so were cheap on tyres too.

Not at all, happy to learn something I had no idea about. I can't actually remember the last time I saw one. Must've been at least 8 years ago.

Puma was a great car. More powerful engine in the same basic underpinnings as the Ka and the Fiesta, which also have great driving dynamics.

I used to own a 1.7 Puma back in the day......geez, was a lifetime ago. Visited pumaspeed for a few bits and bobs and saw lots of racing pumas being built.
Good car, even if it was a fiesta in drag.

anyway, yes......the new puma suv thing will sell like hotcakes. It panders to the 'must haves, look at me' PCP generation.

Ford: Can I help you miss
Customer: Yes, I'm looking at a puma
Ford: What would you like to know
Customer: Does it have the instagram and snapchat apps
Ford: Yes it does
Customer: How much a month
Ford: Only £299 a month Miss
Customer: I'll have it!!!!!!

Capri pickup would be errm...

yeah I had a puma 10 years or so ago. I had never owned one and thought at the time its now or never

I really enjoyed it. I moved from a fairly rapid BM 5 series to that (gave up a directorship and went cheap for a while whilst I took some time out). It was far far more fun to drive.

IIRC they were basically fiestas with a posh frock.

I still occasionally look at them now. But as stated they rotted really badly, particularly the areas around the wheels as they had basically no rot protection. By the time most people found this is was too late.

The Juke is an awful car, yet people keey buying it. Why????

You can't just take what used to be a sporty car and make it in to yet another crap SUV thing. How does that work? Surely it's a totally different audience? (Petrolhead vs school run mum).

have you driven one, for any time ?

Had one as a hire car on a works trip over a week, 500miles, petrol, handling with 4 people pretty reasonable, didn't feel top heavy, unwieldy,
not uncomfortable or noisy... I wasn't looking / don't remember the outside too much.
