Hi has anyone else experienced issues with a Asus Strix GTX 1080TI where it looks like space invaders are attacking? Getting artifacts (pink/green) randomly in games, browsers, videos...

I contacted Asus who say they do not honour warranties themselves but instead through retailers which leaves me a bit stuffed. :( hence I have to fix myself.

Thanks

Sounds like your GPU is dying/dead!

Just to cover all the bases I'd reseat the card and power cables, if that doesn't fix it and you've overclocked the card reset it to stock and see if that does anything. Failing that reinstall drivers making sure you download DDU and boot into safe mode to use it, reinstall drivers and see if that fixes things. If it does, maybe test with furmark or kombuster etc for an hour or two just to be sure.

If not your card is sadly borked and you'll need to rma it if you got it from a retailer and its under warranty, I'm assuming by your comment it's second hand. How long have you had it?

Unfortunately I purchased second hand. The seller provided the screenshot of order confirmation but that isnt enough. I tried to under clock it but doesn't make a difference. Interestingly enough there is no rhymn nor reason as to when the artifacts appear.

The annoying thing is that I usually purchase evga as they are fantastic with warranty (though last card I had to do that with was a 8800 GTX! I don't get the logic of Asus. They recognise its their card, they verified the serial number means the card is under warranty til Dec 2020 but they say they are not responsible for it, only the retailer?

:(

Have you gotten in touch with the seller to see if they're willing to help rma the card?

I'd certainly ddu the drivers just in case

A good reason not to buy Asus in the 2nd hand market, considering you pay a premium for the brand in the first place, it certainly lacks a premium RMA service. I used to like Asus hardware, but of late gigabyte are on top, producing some of the best X390 boards and GFX cards. plus UK based RMA service.
plus we have a rep in the forums who can help out. Asus you should be ashamed of your RMA considering you know its one of your cards.

They have not responded. Will try the DDU trick. Would be annoying to write off such an expensive card!

Agreed. The Strix model looks exceptionally expensive more than evga and yet nothing seems to back it up. Suffice it to say I'll never buy another Asus card again....which seems to be a common theme on the net anyway. Should have googled company reviews before buying.

@James_Duncan_Smith If it's been less than 30 days since delivery date you're still covered by Ebay money back guarantee scheme, but you'll have to log your request sharpish!

If it's been over 30 days and the seller hasn't been in touch, while it might still be worth contacting Ebay, I think you're probably stuffed I'm afraid.

Alas just over. Live and learn I guess! Not the end of the world just frustrating.

I would probably just return it to the seller. He will be able to get the card repaired / replaced under warranty and resell it. Is it an individual or a shop / business that sold it?

Out of interest, does the seller have other GPUs or PC gear for sale?

It was an individual. No response so unlikely to have any recourse. In fairness it's worked for a month so unlikely to have been in bad faith!

this is why furmark/kombustor goes on for at least an hour the moment the preowned card arrives.
it could have been iffy which is why the previous owner wanted to get rid.
just so happened it was hanging on by a thread for the last 4 weeks whilst you had it, before giving up the ghost.

if you paid with paypal and it was faulty since day one you have 180 days to paypal dispute it outside ebay.

But ASUS will give you warranty from manufacture date if receipt is not present. Fire them email and double check.

Asus don't deal with the end user for pc components. It's all via the retailer. They do for complete builds like laptops and monitors though.

I contacted about motherboard once directly and told told them i dont have receipt and it was a gift, they told me to post to them at my own cost and only give me warranty from manufacture date.
Worth a try.
