If i get a B450 motherboard will it take Ryzen 3000 when they come out. I need my second PC operational (i sold some stuff) so i can get a AMD Ryzen 3 1200 for £60 new. i have 8gb of 3000mhz DDR4 spare which will do for now. Im only doing light 2D CAD and Photoshop elements witha 1050ti or GTX 970. Long term will be looking at Revit.

The MSI Tomahawk and Carbon Pro, B450 boards are considered to have the best VRM cooling in the B450 class - which is enviable/advisable for Ryzen 2
MSI b450 itx-ac board actually has the best vrm of the b450 boards. Also better than most x470 boards except the flagships.
But failing that, then the next one down is the msi b450 gaming pro carbon AC, as you've listed.
Tomahawk is slightly below the b450 carbon AC in the vrm tier. Also with the added wifi-ac card of the carbon, tomahawk shouldn't really be considered if you need WiFi.

Hehe - see edit (just added) - but, yes, mini form factor should have been considered (This is where he informs us he has an Obsidian case - but it would be very chilled in there.)

They really pack a lot of quality into these ITX boards now - for small spaces/heat.

For MATX, the Mortar, then the Bazooka (if I remember correctly).

Although you're probably better off buying the cheapest motherboard that will take a Ryzen 1200, then selling board and 1200 to upgrade CPU and board to X570 or B550. The more expensive the board the more money you'll lose selling it second-hand. The new boards are going to have nice features which in theory will run the same chip faster. Faster PCIe lanes, improved Precision Boost and XFR. Hopefully better memory support though remains to be seen.

There is also the possibility that a modern £120 board will handle 12 cores a bit better than a current £120 board, for example. This last consideration won't matter much if you go for an 8-core.

I'm skipping straight to the x570 for above reasons. Plus, i just want to play - although i may let @orbitalwalsh iron out all the kinks of the first round of BIOS updates before i dip my toe.

thanks all. looks like i will go for the Mortar. I can try the new chip when they come out and swap the mobo if its not viable.. I may even find the 1200 chip is fine for my purposes.

The Case is the MiniXL in Sig

Agree with @Danny75 . Probably best to just get the cheapest b350/450 board if you plan to upgrade the board anyway. The 1200 isn't a power hog needing good vrms to run/oc.
According to @orbitalwalsh , new x570 boards will have vastly improved vrms that will put current boards to shame

Ballz - vindication for @tamzzy (can't see sigs on my phone).

Yes, i'm riding his coat tails for info on this too - and I'm semi serious about skipping the first month after release as I may be away most of July, so could possibly have new kit sat unopened or hurriedly built/optimised and with very little tweaking/bench time. With no time to savour freaking out a new system - is a pointless time to build...

Are you guys taking the plunge for curiosity/need sake?

will Ryzen eventually sort it self out with drivers if a put an M.2 with windows that has been in an intel system, (saves re-installing software)

Personally am curious indeed but I only upgrade based on need. So only if current CPU/mobo dies or I encounter a task/game where they don't cut it anymore, or some Windows 10 update makes it incompatible. Do get to play with other stuff for a day or two whenever someone asks me to build but unfortunately nobody among these has wanted a Ryzen yet. Though I have someone hopefully lined up for a Ryzen 3000 in summer. Recently upgraded GPU as well as having to replace cooler, so that'll keep me going a while.

I've turned sigs off in general lol. Just makes the forum cleaner looking :p

Still rocking a 3770k @4.5
Not needing to upgrade, but will do, if the single thread gains are large enough.
Single thread CB = 175 currently. So looking at least 195-200 for an oc ryzen 3000.

I switched from Intel to Ryzen and didnt have to reinstall Windows. I had to fix a few minor things but no reinstall was needed, although to be honest I am going to reinstall anyway as my boot drive is far too messy for my liking, plus who doesnt like spending a few hours reinstalling windows and having everything nice and fresh :)

well I have a spare m.2 so I don't have to commit to wiping my existing drive :)

I did too but I am VERY lazy so I just thought "F it, if it's works I can't be bothered reinstalling". Now I'm bored I'll just reinstall. Fickle too it would seem.

You can uninstall all your chipset drivers and other linked drivers and Windows 10 does a pretty good job now of keeping things stable when swapping chipset.

That said - i still don't if i can avoid it - much prefer the security/cleanse of a clean install (probably old school thinking). Windows 10 is a PITA at the best of times and the two machines I've had to do this to, for speed/necessity, eventually both friends started having the odd issue (may have been coincidence - possibly their crappy apps/programs). After a few months I eventually, took machine off their hands - and reformatted.

That's how i got my Ryzen kicks on their first round of releases. I was meant to dip my toe in myself but ended up holding of for similar reasons to @tamzzy - plus house renovations went way over time/budget. I think a new system would have choked - it took 12 cans of compressed air to clean my present systems after they finally f'off :/
