I have the upgrade itch and a pot of money to play with. I currently have a TN panel 4k (not gsync)monitor and a 1080 GPU and I have been agonising over whether to get a 1440p IPS 144hz(Gsync) monitor or a 4k IPS 60hz (Gsync)monitor to replace the 4k monitor I have. This is the hardest upgrade decision I have ever had to make because I cannot see the results unless I purchase the monitor.

I realise this is subjective to some degree and after hours of browsing/researching to come to some sort of decision I have just become more unsure, without seeing what the results would be its so hard to make a choice. I do intend to buy a 2080ti at some stage so should I get a 2080ti and would I see a significant benefit over a better monitor WITH Gsync/Adaptive Sync.

Would I see more benefit from a 2080ti on my TN 60Hz monitor than an IPS 4k or a QHD 144hz. It just confusing.

I think it's worth trying out done high frame rate displays if you can. As you're on 4k already there's less to be gained going Gsync unless you're specifically unhappy with screen tearing or frame rates. It doesn't sound like that much of an improvement.

Whereas higher frame rates are something that you don't have right now and maybe haven't experienced - well worth an upgrade if you like the difference.

I was hoping I could improve graphics with better colour from the ips display and gsync to make things a bit smoother, I guess you might be right maybe I should go for a better refresh rate What would you buy out of roughly 400-600?

I’d like to throw a spanner in the works and suggest ultrawide high refresh rate. I game at 3440x1440 120Hz and it’s glorious.

I'd definitely go for that but I'm limited to 28"max

Why’s that mate? Desk space?

I had a very small desk before I built my new one, it was the diddy IKEA Micke. I just mounted mine on a monitor arm and it was fabulous. If you’ve got walls in the way though, I guess it’s impossible.

I’ve never been bothered by super high res or refresh, I had my U2412m for years and gamed quite happily. But when I first experienced ultrawide 21:9, 35” @120Hz with G-Sync, it was magical. For me it strikes the perfect balnce of pixel density, real estate and gpu demand.

Just saying if there’s any way, I’d try to.

He will need two 2080ti's if he wants anywhere near 144fps in 4k, unless he drops textures etc

That depends on the games he's playing. You can always load up more and more features - Hairworks, anyone? RTX, anyone? - to kill any GPU. I get 120 fps (one cable so 120 fps max) most of the time in Borderlands 2 with all settings maxxed, dipping to 60-70 fps when things get REALLY busy. Roll on BL3!

Yep. I get 90-120fps on my OC’d 1080 at 3440x1440. I turn off high impact, low return settings like ambient occlusion.
