Hi all
ive bought a optoma hd27e and a second-hand pioneer htp071 surround sound for a cinema room I'm doing for my boys I'm going to be using a pc for the movies what is the best way to set up all 3 bits of hardware ie do i plug all in to the pc or do i plug the sound into the projector ?? sorry for the noob question I'm new to amps and surround sound

cheers

Treat the projector like a monitor. Give it the video out via HDMI from the Pioneer AV receiver.

Next, the receiver itself is your picture and sound connection hub. Any source, be it the PC or a games console or a Blu-ray player, it all connects to the receiver. The receiver then acts as a switch between sources and passes picture to the projector whilst decoding and processing sound to go to the speakers.

O right cool the projector is coming today so I'll get it connected up and tested

Cheers for your help lucid

so thanks to Lucid I've got the picture and sound working. I've got another question as I'm using a projector and amp does it matter what GPU and sound card I have in the pc at the moment I'm doing my testing with an old pc with on board sound and a 560ti GPU
also any recommendations on a 100" fixed screen max budget £200
cheers

What projector is it? Most cheaper ones are rubbish for Home cinema as they dont support the resolutions and there output isnt very high.

Best off with a big LCD/Oled - unless your spending thousands.

The video card will of course dictate 3d gaming, it wont be a problem for the projector - sound wise just output digital audio direct to your amp. Dont use headphone or analog line outputs.

Once erected, the Luxburg 100" 16:9 frame screen is okay for the money @ £180. Putting it together can be a bit of a pain because they drill the fixing holes slightly off. When I installed one for a client I had to drill my own holes in the correct places, then clean up the aluminium swarf so as not to damage the velvet finish on the frame. Allow a half day and work tidy; you'll be fine.

Graphics cards: There are more knowledgeable people than me on that score. I've only ever built HTPC systems for media library playback of film collections, and that's a while ago It didn't need a powerful card to do 1080p at 24/50/60 Hz with some bitstream audio all via HDMI out.

If all he wants to do is 1080p then on board or any cheap gpu is fine.

If his receiver can accept 4k then he will need at minimum a 1050 iirc if he wants more than 24/30 hz
