Hey again all,

My mate is looking to get back into gaming with a PC that'll play most games on whatever graphics settings.

His budget is around £600, and to be honest, I'm failing to keep it under that budget!

If anyone woulds be able to give a hand that'd be a great help.

So far, the components I've thought about are:

If you have any recommendations it'd be great to hear them :)

Thanks!
Nathan

To save some money all you can really do with that build is drop down to a decent b450 board. I have read good things about the MSI B450 Tomahawk.

This would also allow you to spend a little more on a decent PSU as I'm not sure those kolinks are great quality.

What TV/monitor is this going to be paired with? 4Gb of vram could be a hindrance on some games going forward and even now.

Hey Nathan

Does he need all that storage - he could save and add another drive at a later date.

Here's a 580 (nice bump from 570 and 8Gb Vram) option - mATX with a decent motherboard and much, much better PSU:

Total: £635.19 (includes shipping: £12.30)

I think temporarily the PC will have a cheapo 1080p monitor, nothing special.

Thank you again, saviour plec. That's looking more bang for buck for sure, and something I think I'll pitch to him. Fingers crossed he's happy with the budget!!

Cheers :)

No worries, Nathan.

Also, you get 4 free games in total - and codes will sell ~£25 a piece so he could offset the price by an additional ~£100 if he sells all the games (2 free with CPU and 2 free with GPU).

Although, he may want to keep 2 for himself (duplicates).

If I were to ask for recommendations for a Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse trio for £170, is that possible? I realise that's very little now that i'm typing it out haha

oddly saw a monitor on a deals site earlier and it looked brilliant for the price, if you google Lenovo Y25f-10 and look on their site it seems a great monitor for the price. 144Hz, Freesync, "only" 1080p on a TN panel but its £130! think its a great match with an Rx580.

^^^ Yep, shopping around would get you a 144Hz panel.

But if shopping all at OcUK - this AOC panel is a 25" 75Hz Freesysnc:

Couldn't find thjat monitor for the price you've said which is a bit disappointing! But I think the AOC Plec's posted will do the job for him :)

The AOC has a good pixel returns policy - and 3 year warranty. And 75Hz Freesync is a good gaming panel when on a budget.

@Plec If 144hz was the criteria needed, what would you suggest? I'm still loving the Samsung screen i was recommended with by build (Think you suggested it?). Is there a newer version of it?

That Samsung was considerably more than your mates budget - it it creeping up?

Otherwise, i can only find a curved Acer within the budget which i would hesitate to recommend - well i wouldn't. I personally would pick the AOC - as his spec would marry up to it nicely and it's a decent panel for the money.

Yeah I sent him the AOC, and he's said he was thinking over 120hz minimum, and is happy to raise his budget slightly if it will allow for that :)

The below seems fairly good for budget? Do you think?

From a quick google it uses a Samsung panel - it's VA (same as yours) so high contrast. Reviews are good and a quick glance at user reviews seem positive too.

Some 144Hz VA panels run the risk of blurring (pixel transitioning) - compared to TN/IPS but depends on panel and user's susceptibility to seeing this (was weary of mentioning this in case you go in search of this on your panel).

Curved is great for solo use (apparently) and gaming face on - but not so great of using as a general monitor and relaxing in a chair off to one side browsing etc...

There's a similar AOC model - 3 year guarantee etc...

@Finners - friendly heads up i would remove that link - perhaps a Google hint if he hasn't seen it already (then the mods won't whip you with an HDMI cable).

Just noticed the case doesn't have any front fans on it. Never bought fans before. Anything in particularly i'm looking for? Apart from it being 120mm

Cheap and cheerful:

Or couple of these - swap out the rear fan, single intake would be enough - or have 2 intakes and keep the rear:
