The constant fear of the door basher

I'm a notorious pain when it comes to parking, the list of cars and reasons for not parking near another is extensive. From people carriers and large 4x4 to anything with a baby seat or dirty/uncared for.

I look for places I can park with one side protected so I can park right over in the space and worry about it when I can't find a space I like.

I do plenty of miles so stone chips are a thing but I hate door dings. Current car hasn't been harmed yet but its only a matter of time :(

It annoys the hell out of me as well, I parked at a local Asda, quite early and there were whole rows of empty spaces so I parked up as the only car in the row. Then just as we were getting our trolley I looked over as a woman parked right next to me. I considered saying something but then had a better idea. I went & moved my car so close she would be unable to even get to her door. I was still within the lines as well as I'd parked a bit haphazard as the place was so empty. Then we went in the store and I watched the woman while the wife did some shopping. Then I saw her head for the checkout I watched as she headed out to the car park. She didn't actually notice that she could not get in until she put her shopping in the boot.

Then she stood there looking frustrated and fetched the trolley pusher bloke to have a look. so I went over and asked what was going on, she claimed some idiot had parked right next to her car even though the car park was empty! so I said well no actually the red Toyota was here first and if so why did you feel the need to park right next to it when the car park is completely empty? She claimed her driving instructor taught her that way, to always park neatly etc but there was definitely no other car when she parked. So I pointed to a previous ding in my door, see that? people like you did that for no good reason. She just huffed and showed signs of getting upset so I let it go and moved my car and she sped off lesson learned hopefully.

i've been parking in parent and child spaces with no child, baby seat or crisps for years.

I'm curious to know why you need the above?

I have no problem saying that people like you are complete ****s

If you actually need to ask why you need the above, then Jesus wept, how do you get through day to day life?

I've had 4 major dents put in to the last 2 cars I owned. Three of them were in a really nice 6th gen Toyota Celica.
Not one of them left a note or waited around or otherwise got in contact!
It seems that it's commonplace to hit and run.

I seen a woman and her daughter laughing their heads off whilst the mother who couldn't park for toffee was scraping her car against someone elses whilst trying to park.

i actually don't park in the parent and child but i did used to and when i used to i didn't need any of the above and i was never done for anything. i'm just curious to know why you need crisps on your carpet and a baby seat. anyone can park there.

it's at my local asda which is 24/7. i would park there when it was late and the whole place was empty as it's closet to the shop.

Ok, I misunderstood.

I think it was a joke that having the above would fool people in to thinking you actually have a child with you. Basically, anyone that parks in parent/child spaces that doesn't have a child with them is a waste of oxygen.

This. I stopped doing it when my youngest was around 18 months. I felt a bit bad taking that space when it's really designed for babies in maxi-cosis and whatnot.

One of the up-sides to having a disabled daughter is her blue badge, so when she's out with us we get nice wide spaces which is a huge relief. If not then I try and find an end space or park next to another car that looks like it's looked after.

I see plenty of people.park in them with no kids or kids who are all over 5

I admit that I park in parent and child spaces if I go to a supermarket late at night (9pm+) when they're usually all free anyway, or the night staff have started parking there which is something I have seen often. Even then, I still don't park at the closest ones to the shop just in case there is a legitimate use for them.

I won't ever park in them at normal times though, ie. when people are actually out with their kids. Perhaps that still makes me a *****, but I at least try to show some consideration for people.

With that said, when it's late at night the normal spaces are mostly empty anyway so the benefit of doing so is mostly negated as a result (lessening the risk of door dings). Before I get abuse hurled my way, I'll state now that I'll change my ways ;)

You need a child to park there. Having a child seat and crisps makes it look like you have a child ... It was a joke.

If you actually park there without kids (in peak times), you're a ****

Honestly, that's fine. You only ever need the family spaces when it's peak time and the car park is full. When it's empty, it really doesn't matter and the kiddiewinkles will be in bed anyway :)

Blue badge holders can also use them :)

But unlike disabled spaces, family spaces aren't enforceable. If you park in one in a 2 seater and give the finger to a nearby parking attendant there is nothing they can do about it.

Surely with the new focus on mental health people like me can be assessed and issued a green (or any other colour apart from blue!) badge that gives you access to extra space bays placed in that bit of the car park that no one uses* because it is 1/2 mile from the shop :p

*until you park there of course and attract a random to park in the next bay in their fertility bus.

Obese people should have to park as far from the entrance as possible :D
