You lot kindly helped me with finding a rental place

Now need some advice regarding buying a house in the North East

Requirements:

Small town/village
Ideally near A1 or A19 as work could be as far north as Ashington or south as Middlesbrough
Not chav/criminal/scum ridden as lots of Stockton is
North of Sedgefield, south of the Tyne, ideally Durham-ish longitude

go!
and thanks

Didn't realise they were only 'community' hospitals! Explains it then. BTW...please don't end up in Wansbeck :( It's full of just the dregs of life.

Had the joy of spending a year there as a student, funny old place, decent salad bar in the restaurant if I remember correctly. Must have been bad for that to have been a highlight.

Lmao, yup. As for your living arrangements - might I suggest somewhere like Riding Mill or even Stocksfield? Close enough to the A1 yet out of the way enough to be quiet. Some nice houses there but not stupid money. Closer to the main hospitals of Newcastle as well. Can get to Wansbeck, Rake Lane and Cramlington all in around 30 mins.

NOT Trimdon lol. I lived there for a few years and it is not nice.

A budget would help here.

Coxhoe would fit the bill (in certain parts).
Wickham would be a good choice too... It's a little further North but still the south side of the river (just) but will cost more.

Could start naming loads of places but really need to understand budget and the sort of property you are after.

Move to Ashington, they are building new houses right next to the hospital one what used to be the hospital car park. Perfect for work.

lol, I live in the older "new" estate next to the Hospital, it's a really quiet area until the annual travelling funfair thing arrives, then you get all the chavs and criminals congregating. Small world :)

Do you have Paul Brumby on your facebook from MPFS (DJ SLAM)? He lives in Durham and would be able to advise Durham for you.

I'd be looking closer to Newcastle personally, i love that place!

Just follow the A1 junctions on the map and have a look about. I'd prefer Durham to Newcastle like. Lots of areas have houses that have sprung up for commuting now.

Well Trimdon was good enough for Tony Blair, so how about there?

Haha I'm working in Trimdon at the moment...

There is a new estate at Thinford (Durham Gate), which has been specifically built to target the A1 and Wynyard Manor is a massive new estate being built near Sedgefield which is close to the A19.

Both are on the link below.

Other than that... How rural? What style and size of house? Land? Budget?

What's your budget?
I'm a teesider.

Budget 280k

No sprawling towns, small towns/villages

Detached, larger 3 or regular sized 4 bedroom would be nice
An enclosed garden, not worried about lots of land

A bit too far north, if I had to go to Middlesbrough, that would be a horrible commute

I do, good thinking, cheers Wez

Well based on that you have pretty much got almost all options open.

Shincliffle could be an option.
Coxhoe is definitely in.
Bishop Middleham - Some nice parts
Castle Eden

You could afford, but I would avoid from what you have said, Wynyard, unless you are pretentious, then it might suit well.

What specialty are you doing and are you very likely to be North Tees/James Cook? If not as likely I would probably go a bit north and maybe even Tyne Valley area. The truth is that North Tees and James Cook are rubbish commutes from everywhere really

As a resident of Bishop Middleham, I recommend it. Properties generally range from 50k - 1mil. No "dodgy" areas, several new developments and easy access to the A1. It's a lot nicer than the neighbouring villages imo (with the possible exception of Sedgefield.) I moved up here from Cambridge, and although different at first, I'd never go back. Join us...Join us...;)

James Cook is not bad for a commute.

It is for most doctors who are covering a large geographic patch in training. Depending on what he is doing, how far into training and where he hopes to end up makes a big difference. There is a reason that most of the docs in training generally live more around newcastle, gateshead and Sunderland
