Hi guys

I was just thinking about upgrade goals for the next few months, as I understand the new AMD cpus are coming out (when again?)

my i5 4670K is great but I will be upgrading to a 1080 Ti as I game in 3440x1440 and it might start bottle necking if i try out VR etc

I think I could get like £50 out of the i5? I could upgrade to a 4790K for around £200 used or a new Ryzen chip and replace my DDR3 system (32gb ram and mobo).

Do you think it would be worth it? Is 4790K worth double? Will ryzen be?

Zen2 Ryzens are released for sale in 7th of next month so just wait for that.

Wouldn't myself pay more than pocket money from any quad core CPU.
Especially used six year old architecture one with Intel's bubblegum/toothpaste under the heatspreader in who knows what condition.
There have been cases of temperatures skyrocketing because of that on this forum needing delidding CPU.

Paying £200 from one for only four extra thread would be literally paying to get buttraped.
Next-gen consoles are going to curb stomp quad core PCs with their Zen2 based 8 core/16 thread CPUs.

Recent update regarding price drops for Zen+/2000 series:

I am sure you'll be interested to hear, that competition at that end of the market is going to get weirder too, since from the info I have been given the 2700X is going to be <£199, the 2700 <£159 and the 2600 <£109, with the 2600x <£129, should see the prices from 1st July or maybe a day or two before apparently.

Reading the above - if accurate (never any guarantees) - after the 1st of July there will be a significant drop in the pricing of the 2000 series. So, 2700X coupled with a MSI b450 Carbon Pro (Zen 2 capable board) and 3200MHz memory will be a very cheap upgrade for ~£380

Or, ~£240 for 3600X (Zen 2), ~£100 for motherboard and ~£80 for 3200Mhz memory...

Yes, I will wait. Will the £200 2700 be better value than the 3600X?

Look at these leaks - Clicky - on the performance of the vanilla 3600 from a site that leaked previous Ryzen and were accurate (doesn't make these results reliable - but do make them more credible). Read at least 2 pages to get a sense of speeds...

But, yes, 3600X for gaming over 2700.
