its more a case of evaluating what you get for your money, so if a 1080Ti wasn't enough for you in 2017 then why is a 2070S good enough in 2019?
That's where I am. Cannot justify the additional cost of the 2080s at the moment, so will sit tight.

The new AMD 5700XT is only £380 and trades blows with the 2070 super. A better option for those who don't want to spend £450+.
Gamers Nexus showed the overclocked 2070 Super sitting comfortably ahead of an overclocked Radeon Vii (and 5700XT). His tests show the 2070 Super in a rather compelling light.
Which is why 980Ti owners should keep an eye on the 2080S imho. Under liquid that might be the first product in a very long time worthy of an upgrade because of its unlocked potential to OC past stock 2080Ti. Yes its obviously going to cost £600+ but it might just have enough oomph to be worthy of consideration.Gamers Nexus showed the overclocked 2070 Super sitting comfortably ahead of an overclocked Radeon Vii (and 5700XT). I'm likely going to upgrade from my 980ti to either a 2070 Super or wait around to see what big Navi and Nvidia bring out on (hopefully) a new node
Imo unless you're hyped about RTX waiting is a better proposition. I think value wise next year is going to be a lot more fierce since they have to compete with next-gen consoles.
as a 980Ti owner myself I don't follow the logic of upgrading to a 2070S because you might as well have had a 1080Ti for the past 2yrs for what £150 more (until the prices went loopy)
Imho 980Ti owners are faced with all manner of unpalatable options that personally I'd avoid unless your card fails. I'd wait it out at the very least until the 2080S price/perf is known but ideally when big Navi and 7nm 3000 series (ampere?) comes in about a year. Otherwise you're just getting poor value remember an overclocked 980Ti is close to stock 1080 perf.
What I would say is more interesting is the effect 2070S will have on 2nd hand 1080Ti cos why on earth would they be worth more than £350-ish now you might as well get a 2070S.
Thinking similarly, I'm sat with a GTX 1070 but after having it for 3 years now, I'm getting a bit itchy for an upgrade. Don't know if 2070S is the way forward though or to just hold off for another year.
