Just built a new 3700x system with x570 Taichi. Updated mobo bios and chipset driver etc etc.

But 8 pack ram (4000mhz) was reporting as 2400mhz.

If I try doing anything with it, the system breaks and won't even load windows. Sometimes won't even post. I've tried enabling XMP profile, tried doing that and turning down the clock to 3600mhz, tried putting 3600mhz without putting on XMP. tried everything. Everything I do bricks the system. What am I doing wrong??

does it work at 3200? that's amd official certified spec.
if it doesn't work at that speed, then ram's borked.
if it works at 3200, then loosen the timings whilst you increase the speed...then start to tighten the timings again...but most likely you've probably lost the IMC IF lottery.

But it's rated for 4000Mhz CL18
Surely it has to run at that? I mean it costs a lot more than normal RAM. Im only trying to run it at 3600Mhz!

This stuff just works..... Even from Ryzen 1xxx from day one..... Next Agesa code then maybe the stuff you guys are using is not ......... I just would not take a punt... Get something that works, can be tuned, Is rock stable and can OC. 2% perf also is better than nothing for someone into premium tier then this is absolutely the way to go....

maybe 8 "just works' pack will be able to help

the ram might be able to run at it's advertised speed (ie binned), but there's more to that. the IMC/IF must be able to handle those speeds too...
that's a bit disingenuous...yes b-die did work most of the time, but it didn't 'just work'. a cursory glance at the 8-pack b-die ram thread would be proof enough. it was all very IMC dependent, and some unlucky sod's ryzen IMCs couldn't run the ram even at 3200mhz.

not sure mate.
(i'm assuming you've set up all the voltages etc correctly already)
as a last resort, might be worth RMAing the current set of ram for a new set...if it still doesn't work then it's most likely your CPU.

Maybe 8 pack will have some ideas.
As quoted in an above post, it has indeed worked since Ryzen 1. I ran 32GB of the stuff, two different packs, at 3200 from day one (the speed the memory was rated at).
Just a thought but what's the minium sticks the mobo can run? if one, then could test each stick individually which would at least help determine if something is faulty.
Bound to occasionally get a faulty set but could also be compatibility atm until the bios matures. Maybe see if someone else is using the same memory on same board to rule that out.

I really don't know. If I do anything, anything at all other than leave it at stock 2400mhz it just won't post or goes into a boot loop and I have to fully clear CMOS to get it back to bios.

Ok. So I can get it to load windows if I use 3200mhz and 22cas timing. Which is obviously not good enough considering what I paid for.

Anything faster, or tighter and it won't boot.

Beany what's your Rma number I will check these sticks myself if indeed not processed already.

bear with me 8 pack (thanks for replying on a sat morning). I've got it to post with 3200 - CL14. And 3400 - CL16. But I think thats as good as it gets. still pretty dissapointing.

All mine can do easy with decent cpu .... But you have a different cpu... Different mb...

I mean I have zen2 that can't do anymore than 1600 IF... Imc can only do 3600...a 3900x... So why expect crazy results from every sample cpu......

All memory is xmp set up which is an Intel platform... We sold 6000+ 8Pack 3200 kits alone rma rate almost zero...

Buy ten cpus try with all... See what the differences are... Sell the mine worsed imc... Ofcourse I do this testing daily.....

I don't epexct crazy results.
I just expect a modest 3600Mhz from a expensive kit sold and tested as "4000Mhz"... Thats fair isn't it? If I was looking for 3200Mhz RAM then I could have got some for literally half the price of this stuff.
My motherboard is the X570 Taichi.... The one you recommend.

RMA no. is OC3596778 FYI

OK hopefully I can test the sticks... On known good cpu and MB...

Let's see what the issue is...

What bios version you using??
