Hi all,

I've been advised that the Ryzen 3600 will work with the MSI B450M Motherboard if I update the mobo bios first.

The first question is just to check if the 3600x will also work?

And secondly, given there is not much in terms of price difference at the moment, is it worth going for the 3600x over the 3600 if I'm not planning on overclocking anything?

Many thanks!

Hardly any difference with the 3600 and the 3600x. Not worth the £50 premium. Just get the 3600 and use the £50 on a better/quieter cooler if that is of importance.

Thanks @tamzzy - Almost there now - Just making a final call on the RAM. Think I'll go for 32GB - is there a much of a difference between 3000Mhz and 3200? Either way, I'd be grateful if you could recommend the best value / quality 32gb set to fit with the 450M / Ryzen 3600x / Vega 56 Combo? Thanks a mil!

@Burnt_Custard - Only about £18 difference between them at the moment, so went for the 3600x!

the jury is out there just now. can't really say 100% or not...but for a normal rig (like yours...not the ones that run into a few thousands) just stick with more value oriented ram

yeah. 3600x discounted to £220 and 3600 increased to £200

Ryzen is coming down in price already, the 3700x has gone from 319.99 to 299.99 in a matter of weeks. Let the hype die down and grab a bargain. Unless you are impatient. I pulled the trigger today and got my 3700x. As for your mobo, again I would be tempted to upgrade to at least an x470 chipset with decent VRM cooling to help things run smoothly. It will run on your B450 mobo but you are at your limit with that chip, IMO.

Heard just today that MSI B450 motherboards are not cutting it and are having various issues with third gen Ryzens.

If you just bought any B450 Board, you should return it and buy a MAX board instead. Its more "futureproof" for upcoming BIOS updates and its no hassle with Ryzen 3000 Series. (Official statement on livestream from MSI, wow.) Timestamp on stream: 1:40:29, you can watch it here ->

I'd perhaps hang fire on any third gen Ryzen purchase with an MSI B450 until this is all clarified / fixed.

Not everyone is having issues. Seems to be a bit hit and miss. The MAX boards are hopefully due out soon so any problems should disappear.

I think most issues are with MSI boards. Asrock boards are doing just fine with a bios update with the ryzen 3000 series.

Dont need to worry too much about VRMs if going for a 6 core processor. Just get one with decent heatsink. A B450 Pro4 or a Steel Legend will do just fine.

For the RAM, get the ballistix lt 3200 kit or patriot and you are good to go.
