2070 super at £475 or 2080 (non super ) at £580

A 2070S will be a nice upgrade, 1080 Ti performance is still exceptional today. You'll get more than £200 for the 1080 I'd try for £250 ish

not sure how £250 can be justified for a used 1080 with (presumably) no or very little warranty left, when a new 2060 which has the same performance is available for £320 - with full warranty and 2 free games.

Sorry I've been out of gpus for a while, isn't the 1080 more a 2070 card therefor 2060S which is a £380 card? The 2060 isn't quite a 1080 performing card iirc

Yep and it was like this when I picked up my second hand 1070ti as a 1080 was about £100-£120 more and really not worth the additional cost for not much more performance as the chart you posted shows.

Ahh right I take it back - like I said I've been out of the gpu world a few years, I always thought 1080 was a 2070 tier card I must be wrong.

Still looking on the bay I don't think you'll find a 1080 for £200 I sold mine for 280 only a few weeks ago.

Ebay tends to lag behind other places as theres people happy to way over pay for stuff like CPU's as a 4790k/6700k/7700k still goes close to near £200 which is stupid giving a 9600k/3600 is about £200 and the prices on Ryzen 2600/2700 are great. This is prob why the MM is dead as why sell on there when people will overpay for them elsewhere.

As I also posted above theres a massive gap between a 1070ti and 1080 prices and its even stranger now that one can get brand new and second hand Vega 56's and 64's for very good money.

I'd rather just drop the shadows and turn of RTX than pay that much money for exodus.

True, but if want close to highest settings in upcoming games the extra power will come in handy, or if you want to push towards the matching FPS with refresh rate in older games. Definitely a point of personal preference.

Like yourself I had a 1080, a EVGA FTW which I sold here recently. Only sold it as it won’t fit in a smaller case. Was gutted to see it go tbh, I would’ve kept it otherwise.

Like mentioned above, I would keep it and dial in the settings to get things right. With a bit of luck and patience it’ll last you a few more years.

One thing to remember - the aim is to sell you the upgrade before you really need it. What better way to do that than undermining game optimisation. Conveniently most reviewers don’t mention it or bother to look at it properly..

i agree but i don't see any games coming out until cyberpunk whcih will push the boundaries, and nvidia are bound to drop a new card by then

fyi i have a 2080.. im one of the idiots who bought one but i was coming from a 670 and sadly upgraded in the wrong generation

I bought a 2080 because it was almost impossible to find stock of 1080ti here.
No regrets... It was on offer price and its served me well for most of the year already.
If i was buying again tomorrow id probably get a 2080s. I have money, might as well spend it on things i like. No need to skimp.

Cyberpunk will likely be the next big step, true.

Your jump to a 2080 must have been a hell of a step up, I had 3 cards between my 680 and 1080 Ti (one was a sidegrade as part of an RMA).
