Irrational rage from slower vehicles at traffic lights

I get monumentally hacked off with idiots right up behind me as I'm taking literally ages to get up to speed from a junction/lights ect..
If its a 30 I get up to that speed nice and smoothly.

I don’t see the point of putting foot to the floor to get up to the speed limit, it’s just a waste of fuel. You don’t get anywhere any faster in town anyway, I see people do that all the time and I am right up behind them at the next sets of lights. Accelerate smoothly and you will get there just the same.

You'd hate following me in my Volvo 850, it takes forever to get to 30 but then as I keep increasing my speed I often have drivers who go out round me that then have to move in behind me as they didn't realise I'm not 90 and will accelerate as fast as the car lets me to the speed limit. It's amusing from my side.

Yeah, but my car is fuelled with electricity I don't pay for! ;) In this case I was quite near my home and there was just light Sunday traffic on the road. No more traffic lights ahead, so I did get to my location marginally quicker. Oh and the acceleration was good fun anyway, it's not all about shaving off 20 seconds from my journey.

Sorry, I wasn't meaning to hack anybody off in this thread. I wasn't really that bothered that he undertook me, specifically. I could see what he was doing when he was still some distance behind me. If he was speeding at me in the right lane rather than left I would've happily moved over and let the idiot speed ahead in the right lane. There is absolutely no excuse to go 80mph in a 50mph zone, undertaking or overtaking other traffic doing the speed limit - unless you're an emergency vehicle. And then to proceed to weave in and out of traffic like a raging maniac. But I digress, I really just wanted to see if anybody else had similar experiences.

The more you crawl your way up to the speedlimit, if you even get there but thats a whole different whine, the more you create traffic behind you.
Now i dont know about where you live but round here, most of the day traffic can run at 30 in the town without problem ... at least outwith rush hour. All it takes is some prat in a heap taking ages to get up to speed for that to have a knock on affect behind.
Then there is the ones that seem to be able to reach 20mph but no more, and the idiots who can do no more than 45/50 out and about but when they reach the 30 zones keep the same speed... like WTF is wrong with them?

I would like to see a retest for all drivers after a certain number of years... say 5. Every 5 years you have to do a retest, wont be the same as the actual driving test... nope much harder. Bet that would remove a lot of drivers from the roads.

slow reaction from drivers to move off, or, increasingly wait for their car to re-start is annoying, (set of lights on A10 will sometimes give the queue just 15-20s go time)
which comes 2nd to people who must take the same journey everyday but don't know the junction light sequence to be able to judge their arrival so they don't need to stop,
although there's a hare vs tortoise satisfaction in overtaking the cretin who stops.

I often encounter this on motorway slip roads too.

I join the M1 at J22 every morning. The roundabout is traffic light controlled, so you usually go from a standing start up the slip road.
Cars accelerate from the lights and up the slip in glacial fashion - by the end of the slip it's lucky if they are even approaching 50 let alone 70. This makes it extremely tricky for any cars following to gap themselves and merge safely.

If my 67bhp Fiesta can hit 70 well before the end of the slip without having to thrash the knackers off it, then most modern traffic shouldn't be struggling either.

Its nothing to do with a performance car, there are loads of idiots out there who do this to any driver of any car.

So you deliberately impede the normal flow of traffic to 30mph, goad other road users into passing you (in the belief that you are a hesitant driver), and then "trick" them by accelerating rapidly when the next speed limit change occurs?

Congratulations, you must be very pleased with yourself.

I really no longer get annoyed by other drivers, life is a lot more fun when you generally don't give a damn, unless they put your life in danger just let them get on with it and you get on with your day.

If I am at the start of a set of traffic lights in the Ferrari, I often boot it and enjoy shifting up through the gears whilst making a totally epic noise, never seen any other road users take offence either, in fact they seem to enjoy hearing that V8 sing. :)

Lol, absolutely not! I just drive to the capabilities of my car, it's just that people don't expect a 27 year old car to continue to accelerate up to NSL and go round thinking I won't. At no stage am I stopping acceleration. No different to driving a low spec 107 or smart car on a motorway.

Good to know! :D

I try to keep this mentality, but it can be severely tested sometimes on my commutes.

You sound like the driver I posted about awhile back - dawdling through town taking forever to get going after light changes, etc. generally impeding the traffic flow through town but then once we hit the dual carriageway just kept accelerating, in the left hand lane, going past vehicles that had pulled out to overtake, to speeds beyond what anyone else was comfortable doing causing a general menace and quite dangerous if people were complacent/forgot to check their left before moving over again thinking they'd overtaken.

Won't lie though - I'm generally far more cautious driving through town and sometimes catch people out who think I'm a slow driver because they rush everywhere who go to overtake me once we hit the open road but then I take off - but I never pace or undertake someone who is already alongside or moving past me only idiots do that.

I try not to get annoyed but two things I just can't switch off is when people have no idea how to use their indicators and/or those that drive everywhere at 40 MPH and get upset at people due to events they caused by their own incompetence - like getting funny because you get quite close behind them when they pull out infront of you and then just sit there, when there wasn't even any traffic behind you, and their actions caused you to have to slow down significantly from normal road speed with very little gap.

I have this kind of thing happen like 3 times a week on this bit of road:

Usually they pull out with far less of a gap from the petrol station and don't even get moving after pulling out infront of you.

Also my own driving is far from perfect but that isn't from lack of trying to improve it or just not caring about other road users.

Main problem like some people have mention here are people itself.
People are either:
-Driving too slow
-No clue where they are going (if they never driven on that particular road then fine)
-Always seem to be in a hurry *this is a major problem in my opinion*
-Van drivers driving like they are driving a supercar
-Not indicating
-People using wrong lane on roundabouts
-People using their phones
-Local drivers driving wrong side of the road in car-parks

Vehicles straddling two lanes on roundabouts/junctions absolutely does my nut in. Especially when you're turning right on the roundabout and they, in the left lane know you are there, yet slowly drift over your line, forcing you to brake/horn, which then enrages them further.

As said above though, life is too short to get angry with road users - they're lazy and reckless, drive defensively and hope for the best. I'm seriously considering getting a dashcam.
