Ships under attack in the middle east

What does instex trade in, Rroff? Food and medicine which are not prohibited by unilateral US sanctions anyway. The Iranians have asked for it to include oil sales, which would fall foul of unilateral US sanctions, and the EU has refused hence it is useless.

Keep up.

Why avoid the key factor there? the avenue of non-Dollar trading. Moot point if those things are sanctioned or not if Iran doesn't have access to the financial services needed to pay for them due to US cutting them off.

Wow, someone who glories in our vassalage.

A novel idea: how about we look after our own defence and have an independent foreign policy separate from a country thousands of miles away?

Bye bye Evilsooty!

You'd probably complain if we doubled our defence budget which is what would be required I'm guessing?

Yeah totally, I mean remember all those British troops killed in Vietnam because we just do everything the US says and remember when the US told Thatcher not to retake the Falkland's by force and so she just gave into the Argies. Now we're at it again with the UK withdrawal from the nuclear treaty and the adoption of sanctions on Iran....

There are British troops on US soil. Does that make them our vassal?

EDIT: Just read on a bit and noticed who it was I quoted, guess they won't be making a reply. :D

People just don't understand how NATO works. We see comments on how we "have US nukes on our subs", but the US has some British ones on theirs as well.

Screeching about excessive force seems to be a sign of these times https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-49162256 interesting though suggests the crew were kept in the dark as to what they were doing hence why they entered EU territorial waters.
Yep, what do they expect from a military unit? A warm welcome, hand shakes and "good day sir"? It seems the whole news piece has been written around the one guy's opinion about being a bit upset over the whole debacle (which, for that, you can forgive him for feeling of course).

Speaking of being in the dark, it sounds like they're lacking knowledge (or are choosing to ignore the fact) that the sanctions were in place. As if they really didn't know that.

Excessive force would have been rifle butt to the face or kicked to the floor or whatever...

I'm sure those managing the shipping were aware but the crew kept in the dark as to what they were actually doing.

Gibraltar is International Waters and no coastal nation has the right to stop anything from crossing except if at war.
The moment people stop believing the imperialistic propaganda fed by the government, the better we get out of the sh** hole WE LET THEM put us in.

Here is a good read why what UK did was PIRACY and outright ILLEGAL.

And is not made by some random journalist or blogger......
I was for three years the Head of the Maritime Section of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. I was Alternate Head of the UK Delegation to the UN Preparatory Commission on the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. I both negotiated, and drafted parts of, the Protocol that enabled the Convention to come into force. I was the Head of the FCO Section of the Embargo Surveillance Centre and responsible for giving real time political and legal clearance, 24 hours a day, for naval boarding operations in the Gulf to enforce a UN mandated embargo. There are very few people alive who combine both my practical experience and theoretical knowledge of precisely the subject here discussed.

Lol

No bias at all in an article talking about Britains resurgent imperialism. Nope. None. Lol.

You know, that and the fact that it's completely inaccurate. Actually, that's the wrong word. The word is wrong. It's wrong.

LOL, I realise English isn't your first language but please try to at least present a coherent argument.

Gibraltar is not "international waters", Gibraltar is a peninsular connected to Spain, surrounding the peninsular are Gibraltar's territorial waters, extending 3 nautical miles.

Please provide evidence to support your claim that the ship was in international waters.

Not only is the argument from the disgraced ex-diplomat with a massive chip on his shoulder incorrect/confused but you've not even understood it and have confused it further yourself. His argument revolves around the right of transit passage through the strait(i.e. through Spain and Morocco's waters), he's wrongly applied this as he's clearly not checked a map re: where the ship was boarded... you've then assumed he's talking about international waters, he isn't, you've misunderstood your own link.
