Campaigners have called for the government to scrap the two-child limit on benefits

And what if you're knee deep in debt and couldn't even imagine paying for something like that?

I'm not saying people are angels, but people make mistakes and the child shouldn't be punished for them.

This is the kind of wet-liberal thinking that punishes the hard worker who made good life choices and gives in to those that just want handouts. The percentage who really needs the benefits they are given are a minority as most just abuse the system. If you're handing out billions in benefits in a rich country like the UK something has gone very very wrong. They all can't that needy, as it would put us on par with a poor 3rd world country. Those people never learn to have ambition and the only reason we hand out so much as they are lazy and just turn to crime.

You’re right, something has gone very wrong. Look at the amount paid out for in work benefits.

Also, your claim that ‘most’ are abusing the system is a complete lie unless you’ve got some stats to back that up? Even if that were the case (it’s not) the unemployment benefit cost is tiny compared to the cost of giving out state pensions and disability benefits. Or should pensioners and the disabled be cut off as well?

Sound's very anti-business to me, they'll just leave. See how easy that is?

Here's where the selfishness begins and ends, you want things, but wont pay for it, and expect rules to apply to others that dont apply to you.

Immigration allows too much flexibility for companies to give up, this includes SMEs, and it's been explained before if a country has debts it must grow it's economy by immigration/birthrate, productivity or defaulting there are no other options, growth must occur due to inflation, so unless you have a new economic system in your back pocket, nothing will change.

A rational country limited by what the rest of the world adheres and doesnt want to suffer, will simply follow along with the dogma, do you want to suffer or not?

There as already been alternative systems to the stock market. The system we use now has these financial crisis's built in to it. I read a recommended book years ago called "the money bomb" that explains the system and how there is an alternative to it. But busineses won't change it because they make too much money from the currently faulty system.

I found the book. Looks like someone didnt want the information coming out.

How about replace benefit money with vouchers for specific needs?
No fags or booze, no XBoxes or massive TVs. Just the essentials like food and clothing.... the way it used to be.

Because what people looking for work need most is any tiny bit of joy they have in life taken away? Do you not think our mental health services are stretched enough?

I know quite a few well off people that claim these freebie benefits, even though they don't need them. They literally just put the money into an account and save it up over time for their kids to put towards a house deposit/car when they are of age. It should go to the ones that need it and not to those that don't. People should have their finances and lifestyle scrutinised much more thoroughly.

********.
They don't need coddling and excuses and comfortable lifestyles. What they need is a job. They need that worry and fear and anxiety to get them off their arses and out looking for work.
You come across as such a caring and understanding fellow.

I really hope you're never in a position where you need state assistance, as you seem to be getting the idea of a prison cell confused with the idea of helping someone who is unable to work/unable to find work as you'll likely be in for a very nasty shock when the reality of how much is involved gets to you.

Oh, and it never "used to be no money for food or fags", as even back in ye olden days of yore where your rose tinted specs seem to think everything was so much better and the poor were grateful for gruel and knew when to tug their forelocks as they bowed to their betters, the government's calculations allowed for some recreational spending.
For some reason it's considered worthwhile for benefits to (supposedly) include a bit for leisure as without it you tend to get people who are far more likely to be depressed etc, and more likely to find other ways to amuse themselves that don't cost them any money but do tend to cost the government money.

Not particularly appetising. They are fairly poorly fed and are allowed to roam about altogether too much; the meat is sinewy and the flavour is lacking.

I dunno, plenty of fat on the modern day examples, not like the old days where they were all skin and bone.

you won't be taxed on any benefit or credits you receive.

there are calculators online which show you what you would be entitled to after you fill out what you and your partner make and how man hours you work and how much you pay for in child care, etc.

This is exactly as I plan to do for my boys.

Twins, triplets, quadruplets... Sometimes it's not your choice!

I'm talking about people making choices to have multiple kids and you're citing loop holes that I didn't mention in my 2 paragraph post, quite obviously there are exceptions and twins, etc, would be one of those.

Need? The government forks out cash every day which directly contributes to the profit margin of business.

What are grants, subsidies, tax breaks if not benefits. You don't need to be a peasant for the government to slip you a few quid. You simply need to be doing something which is recognised as socially desirable and will more easily happen if the government reduces the financial burden of doing so.

In this case, the desired outcome is a low barrier to having children so most people in this country are eligible for cash to make it less of a financial issue.

If some people use the cash incentives better than others so be it. The overall goal is being achieved.

Typical droid responses in this thread, i would love to see some of you hit rock bottom and then come back with the same attitudes

What do we do when there are more people than jobs?

Maybe governments should have thought of that before flooding the country full of immigrants. Oh that's right they don't think, and then everyone suffers, thank Labour in 97 for rolling out the red carpet
