Gigabyte x570 Gaming X

Attempting to install the latest bios (f4J) via the Gigabyte site but I get a pop saying 'cannot start or run due to incompatabity with 64-bit version of windows'

Is there another version or somewhere else I'm supposed to be getting the update from?
I've never done this before.
Thank you

Download the BIOS .zip file from the Gigabyte site, extract the files, place just the file "X570GAMX.F4j" on to a USB flash drive (formatted as FAT32) reboot leaving the stick plugged in & update from within the BIOS using the Q-Flash option at startup.

Sounds to me like you're using the Windows based app.Dont do that, its very unstable, many people have bricked their boards using that Gigabyte flash app in Windows.

Use the Q-Flash utility in the bios itself, load bios defaults first, save and exit, then go back to the bios to flash it, once done, set you bios up how you want it.

Worked a treat, thank you.
Learn something new every day :)
Now you can advice your friends/neighbours to do it from BIOS.
Flashing motherboard BIOS from Windows simply has too many possible things messing it and risk for bricking board is lot higher.

Sorting out a spec for my wife's new build and if I was to go for an older board that needed flashing for a Ryzen 3600 would that just be the same process but with the relevant manufacturers?

Yes pretty much every board manufacturer has their own bios flash utility built into the bios itself, however, if you were going for an older RyZen board like a B450 or B350 for instance, you would need a compatible CPU (supported by its current bios version) or you'd need to make sure it had a bios flashback button on the board itself, before you could run a 3000 series CPU in it, then the flash process is different, here's MSI's way for instance:

Saying that though, MSI's B450 MAX motherboards support RyZen 3000 out of the box.

That MSI B450 MAX was the one I was looking at but currently OOS and not sure how good it actually is so just keeping my options open :)
The Gigabyte B450 Aorus Pro Wifi was recommended to me so that's also a possibility.

The Gigabyte B450 Aorus Pro Wifi doesnt have a flashback button, so you would also need a 1st or 2nd gen CPU to flash the bios in order to use a RyZen 3000 CPU in it.

The MSI Max boards however come with RyZen 3000 support already.

Were you looking for ATX or mATX ? the MSI B450's were very widely considered the best out of the B450 boards

OCuk did have the Tomahawk MAX, its out of stock at the moment, other places do have it though.

Here's a link to my 'spec me' post https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/build-for-the-wife.18861549/
Think I'll just get the Tomahawk Max tbh, pretty sure it will do the job for her :)

Yes thats quite a nice build, ive got to ask though, does she game on her machine ? if not, why not just go for a 3400G or a 3200G, then drop the GPU, you could also always wait a couple of weeks and go mATX on that build to make it smaller and get the MSI B450 Mortar MAX which is exactly the same as the Tomahawk, just an mATX version.

WoW and Sims..... Not exactly hardcore but I still want her to have something half decent that she'll be happy with :)

Ok maybe best to go with a GPU then, im not sure how the APU's perform, I built my dad a PC a few years ago as I couldnt believe what he paid £600 for from another site, I was disgusted at it and told him to send it back, when I opened it up, it looked like it had a laptop motherboard in it, with a standard CPU and heatsink and Fan, but the RAM was 1 x 4gb stick of SO-DIMM, onboard graphics, Windows 10 Home etc, this was just before RyZens release, so I built him an socket FM2 machine, with 8gb RAM, SSD, on-board graphics, he doesnt really game, but I stuck a game called Inside on there for him which it ran perfectly.

This was it actually, just found the picture for it: https://imgur.com/nGuye4o

To be honest if it wasn't this forum then God knows what I would have bought....

The Tomahawk Max just came in stock today so ordered the full build for her earlier
Will hopefully be here asap so she can stop using mine :D
