Who has the keys to the bank?

Oh look everyone, Labour's pointing fingers again.

My opinion on the actual matter is that corruption and ruthless greed was the norm with bankers rather than the exception back then, they were all at it, christ we have a whole library of films about it, why is it such a surprise? As long as he keeps his nose out the trough now and does what he's paid to do why should we care?

Oh wait. John McDonnell is labour, nevermind, it all makes sense. Their entire MO is to simply point fingers and try undermine everyone else rather than... you know... come up with solutions and propositions to better the country.

Labour needs to be removed from politics like the cancerous cyst it is.

Whilst I'm not suggesting Sajid is going to be a good choice, surely having someone whose had exposure to a global financial crisis isn't a bad idea - if he's learnt anything from the mistakes that those banks made, then that can only be a good thing. Having had no financial experience, as several Chancellors have lacked, is much more of a gamble.

I personally think he's simply an idiot on many of other fronts, regardless of his banking career.

Replace Labour with 'the opposition' and this is just standard UK politics.

I'm not a labour supporter, but isn't that a bit rich given every 5 minutes the Tories are saying that LITERALLY EVERYTHING is better than having Corbyn in office, calling him dangerous and all the rest of it?

Perhaps, but I find myself being in 100% agreement with that statement too.

I'll indulge you on this occasion since some of your comment is worthy of a reply for a change:

In essence your argument is that a poacher makes a better gamekeeper.

This might well be true if the poacher didn't owe favours and turning a blind eye to a load of his mates and had no plans to return to his previous employment when he had demolished a load of fences.

As you suggest, Javid may have conformed to the bankers' norm of corruption and ruthless greed; who is to believe that he has undergone a Damascene conversion on the road to Whitehall?

John McDonnell isn't in any position to call someone else out as being unsuitable to be in government/serve as a cabinet minister:

John McDonnell said:
"It's about time we started honouring those people involved in the armed struggle. It was the bombs and bullets and sacrifice made by the likes of Bobby Sands that brought Britain to the negotiating table.

"The peace we have now is due to the action of the IRA. Because of the bravery of the IRA and people like Bobby Sands, we now have a peace process."

Why thank you, I can barely contain my excitement.

Pretty much this.

From what i can read of McDonnell's career profile, he's never ventured out of politics, so it could be argued that he doesn't have the credentials to call out another chancellor as unfit for the job.

That we should "honour" terrorists for their "bombs and bullets" sacrifice that brought Britain to the negotiating table? Wat???

Well we put the Magna Carta on display in glass cabinets and venerate that. Let's not forget how that document came about.
