My old MSI Krait Z170A motherboard has died and I need a replacement. Do all newer chipsets work fine with my Skylake 6700k i7, and its heatsink so long as its LGA 1151 socket? I see some are described as 'built for 8th/9th generation, are all still backwardly compatible with older generations? I may be updating my cpu though, if I find that that has gone too.

Thanks in advance

No, you will need another Z170 or Z270 chipset or if you dont plan on overclocking then one of the lesser chipset boards in that range, ie H110 or B250 etc.

Z370 / Z390 etc doesnt offically support Skylake although its the same socket, doesnt look like the bios contains the microcode for those older chips.
