I currently have a Focus ST1 (cough diesel) which has been a brilliant company steed for the past 3 years but next month I say bye to the car as the lease is up.

I've been promoted but my company no longer does cars so I'm looking for a replacement in the price range. Ideally still a fun car but semi-sensible family wagon.

I would push the boat out for something more fruity ( M140i or the like) but I turn 40 next year and my wife has reluctantly agreed to glet me buy another motorcycle.

Looked at Golfs, Astra, 1 series and the like. Just not sure what to go with.

Not another Focus, need a change.

Any suggestions?

Deffo consider the 5 Door M135i, just about do-able with the budget (slight haggling required)

Only issue will be BMW options lottery, however, stick with Pro-Nav as a must, and don't worry too much, electric seats will be a surprisingly rare option..

Although you are a bit vague on age/mileage/other requirements.

If higher mileage cars are an option, the S3 Sportback is a bit more family orientated but still quick, and quad exhausts never look bad:

The only reservation I have is my wife owns a 17 plate 120d and I prefer the front and rear lights on the facelift model.

I think the MPG would be low too even on Mway runs unless someone can tell me otherwise?

In slow urban commuting, they aren't great, high 20's at best (IME), however on the motorway, cruise on, mid to high 30's is fairly easily done, I've even topped 40MPG on a few journeys without struggling, however, acceleration is where the fuel goes in these, so any journey where you stop and have to keep geting back up to speed will see <30MPG.

Mind you at least you are getting more requirements out.. fairly frugal is one!

Petrol should be fine then, i have always been under the impression if your doing 15k and over annually then diesel makes more sense. Its tricky what to suggest because within that price range your choice is huge lol.
