Looking to refresh the main PC and replace the Intel 2500k with AMD 3600. I've put the following basket together and wanted some feedback before placing an order.

PSU is Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 600W, and GPU is EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB. I think these are still good and should not need replacing.

I've purposely over spec'd the moterboard in attempt to improve chances of forwards compatibility in a couple of years etc.

Your thoughts please.. Any components worth swapping out?

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £650.46 (includes shipping: £10.50)

Yes, but the temps on the Asus TUF Gaming X570 Plus are lower https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus...4-x570-chipset-atx-motherboard-mb-6dr-as.html
And, also you should couple it with DDR4-3600 memory for the same price.

Your basket should include these:

When Steve says MSI sucks

Msi is still junk no changes :D

I wouldn’t worry about forward compatibility. That’s all in the socket, and AM4 has got one year left. All AM4 boards will last one more year, then it’s new socket time if you want a new CPU.

But it's very possible that B450 won't support Ryzen 4000.
Yes, but he’s specced a 570, which I’m pretty sure will lol.

And I’m also pretty confident that all AM4 boards will support the next line of CPU’s. Its a major part of AMD’s marketing strategy.

I wonder why msi called their new lineup max. Like hinting that it's the last CPU generation on these boards?!
Or why AMD dropped the PCIe 4.0 support when the board partners were confident that it's fine.

I would NOT bother with neither B450 nor X470 if I have the budget for an X570 board :D

@4K8KW10
incorrecy . ASUS has higher temps on most of their ranges

gigabyte and their rep @GIGA-Man have stated they seat their temp sensors as close as they can get it to components where as asus is further away from a component

you've also got VASTY superior RMA

Elite doesn't have finned heatsink array which the Pro does (single bank) and Ultra/Master (dual banks). Does make it slightly warmer

both feature 50amp units but aorus SIC 634 despite the lower naming is slightly better designed then SIC 639 used in the TUF. SIC 634 can actually run at 55 Amps for periods of time- handy if your a bencher. Both units can run max at 150c

@cocjh1 you also can get £30 steam voucher with the Elite if you leave a review

id also look at Crucial P1 NVMe drive and Corsair NVMe for similar prices

The problem with buying a board that is twice the price of a B450 option is that it offers nothing in terms of performance, until you need to change the CPU. That could be 12 months or 4 years depending on your personal choice.

The fact is though, your X570 board will be worth a lot less when X670 board come out, or even new AM5 boards, so you end up in the situation where the £100 you saved could be better spent if you have no intention to move up to a better CPU inside of 2 years.

Ask yourself how is the X570 going to benefit you, in performance or features? £100 would let you go to a 2TB SSD, or move up to a faster graphics card, both of which have actual benefits from the start and going forward. :)
