Hi. I'm planing a build using a B450 tomahawk max or MSI pro carbon. With a Ryzen 3600 and 2060 super. I'm just wondering about future upgrades of CPU / GPU.. in a couple of years if I was to put in a better graphics card or a Ryzen 7 or 9 would that mobo be ok. I'm on my budget now but in a few years I don't want to have to rip mobo if I want to upgrade CPU or GPU. Thanks.

most likely you wouldn't change CPUs and just stick to what you have but end up changing GPU. AMD and their insane thread count increase along with Performance increase will make you just go brand new in 5 years time - IMO - also BIOS of B450 might be full to the brim by the time AMD sort out AGESA - even with MAX increased size .

Wouldn't personally slap in 16 core ryzen in a B450 board , not if you plan on running it was 4.2ghz all cores. believe 12 cores should be fine left on PBO.

CPU tech is going to move fast and quick now along with Zen3 being the last on AM4 sockets with Zen 4 and 5 being on newer DDR5 sockets . Intel just as bad as they'll be on a new one too.
Push 3700X if you can and wont have to touch it for good 5 years. Intel i7 4 cores only finally just reaching that point of needing to be upgraded .

The 3900X does just fine in that board, so assuming they don't make the 4900X more power hungry then you'll be alright.

tomahawk max supports ryzen 3000 out of the box
the gaming pro carbon doesn't have a max version...so you'll be (most likely) required to do a cpu-less flash before it'll work

for the current price differential - £107 for the tomahawk max, and £125 for the pro carbon, i'd get the pro carbon.
<£20 for better looking board, 2x nvme m.2 slots, better audio codec, intel lan, wifi-ac, and (i think) better VRM heatsinks

Thanks guys. Would you go for the gaming pro carbon. Or the tomahawk max..

If you need flashy lights and Wi-Fi go with the Pro Carbon AC.

The Tomahawk MAX will save you flashing the BIOS, which some people have struggled with due to it not being as simple as turning a key in a lock. :)

ouch. touche lol :(

journey, it looks like my usb key died, windows won't recognise it any more, so maybe that's why my flash went bad and worked fine with your key...
but tbf, it is/was a 13 year old usb key, so it's definitely had its day...

I've read about the BIOS problems and could really do without any hassle as it will be our 1st build and it's already a pretty daunting. Which is why I choose the tomahawk max. If I was to go with the carbon. Could the bios be already flashed or done before despatch.
