US gets tired of paying for policing shipping lanes, asks others to step up, others ridicule the US over the issue and thumb their noses, orangemannmbad etc, Iran steps up piracy in the region with no one capable of stopping them now the US is pulling back.

Who ever could have seen this kind of thing coming!? Oh wait, I have posted it several times. I wonder how long till someone comes in here blaming the UK. 3...2...1...

America and to a lesser extent the UK make a fortune out of selling weapons and "expertise" to countries in the Middle East - perhaps they should think less about accumulating petrodollars by selling them trophies and sell them relevant weapons and expertise

US justice department has now requested the Iranian tanker is seized, just before it was likely due to be released by the UK/Gibraltar:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-49355591

It was set to be released within hours, after the attorney general indicated he would make no further order for its detention.

But after the US application the matter has been adjourned until 15:00 BST.

Gibraltar said the US application is based on a "number of allegations which are now being considered".

A government spokesman also confirmed that police proceedings against all four members of the crew, including the captain - an Indian national - had ended.

The crew's legal team told the BBC that police had said this was due to actions by the Iranian government, and that it was no longer in the public interest to proceed.

The US Department of Justice has made a last-minute request to the authorities in Gibraltar to halt the release of a seized Iranian supertanker.

Well if he wants a trade deal he will. Basically US have told BJ they want three things in exchange for a quick trade deal -

UK pulling out the Iran deal and applying sanctions
UK banning Huawei
UK supporting US with tariffs against China

That will be interesting I wonder what the grounds will be as I don't believe there are any unless the ship made subsequent attempts to continue onto its previous destination and that would be a bit woolly unless it re-entered EU waters in doing so.

A seized Iranian tanker held in Gibraltar is to be released, the local supreme court has ruled, despite a last-minute plea by the US authorities.

Good news; perhaps we in Great Britain can now get back to trying to work with Iran rather than against it.

Apparently it’s been released, so much for the conspiraloons earlier in the thread ranting about the UK being a puppet state.

That seems a bit backwards, it was Iran breaking the rules here.

Perhaps Iran can learn to work with the international community.

They might well do, but this isn’t a swap, the UK was willing to release the Iranian tanker before they even seized the UK flagged Scandinavian ship.
