Dismissed Over Dogs Death.......

Stinks... no point having a manager there if they not going to manage.

Well apparently they gave the option.

Absence reason was unacceptable to the business so find your own cover or get fired.

As opposed to normal absence where it doesn't matter why, the manager just has to deal with it.

We had a manager who needed to take the weekend off to attend a funeral for a family bereavement. He had been 'ordered' to go by his girlfriend's parents, so everyone was speculating whether it was some rich auntie or the like, but no...

It was the cat's funeral.

She should have been prepared for this with a dog of that age. It is rare for dogs to outlive their owners. It's very weak to get so upset, I would have to work with someone like that.

My manager is actually super cool when it comes to looking after her staff, but it's a two way street, I've come in to work at 8am on a Saturday without being asked because I knew the person who was due to be in couldn't make it just so our team didn't look bad and so our manager didn't look bad. If someone like @rubberduck was my manager I'd stay in bed and let him take the fall off his boss. I always treat people who were a lower grade than me with respect and like adults because I knew I'd need something from them at some point and they'd be far more willing to go out of their way to do it if they liked me. This is something good managers understand.

It’s not up to a worker to find cover, this is what their manager is for. This is why they get paid (to manage).
they did manage. they informed her that her reason for absence was not acceptable so she had to come in to work, or find her own cover.
Yeh, I see it from that point of view.
why have you suddenly now seen the light?
As I am your manager - you are sacked right now on the spot for not having compassion against an employee. How does it feel now? You found a new job yet?
and you're in an employment tribunal for unfair dismissal.

staff finding their own cover seems to be a common thing in Royal Mail, I used to deliver to some of the mail centres and remember people mentioning having to try find others to cover their shift...seemed a bit strange

as your boss, you're sacked right now for unfair dismissal. how does that feel, got a new job yet?
mrbell will struggle for that new job because he's been sacked for gross misconduct. when any potential future employers look into the specifics they'll run a mile (or at least quite a few of them will) Shame, seemed like a nice guy. just didn't understand management very well.

Nope, found a new job straight away. I walked away from the job due to no compassion for staff.
