Firstly Hi to all, first post in the mobile forum.

Anyhow, my son threw my Pixel 3a into a rather large pond at a wedding venue last weekend and a week on the owner of the venue still hasn't managed to find it (I must admit there was at least 12" of sludge at the bottom). I need a new phone desperately but my budget is limited. I can go for another Pixel 3a which is a lovely phone for the money, currently £349 at Argos OR I can get the Mi8 Pro (clear back model) for £299 all in. Are there any other handsets around this price I should be considering (preferably available to buy in the UK).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Chris

Huawei are doing £60 cash back on the P20 Pro. You can pick the handset up for £399, less the £60. It’s over your stated budget, but worth reading a few reviews on.

Can you not go here.. https://www.google.com/android/find
You can see pretty much exactly where your phone is and ring it(not that you would hear it). They are not officially water resistant but there are videos showing it submerged. May have run out of battery now though.
Worth remembering for any future wedding involving ponds :D

Didn’t even consider the P20 Pro. It’s definitely now on my shortlist. You can also get the Mate 20 Pro for 499 with 100 cash back so now I’m thinking is it worth the stretch. Reading about it sounds like a great handset.

I’m still tempted by the Mi 8 pro but not to sure about the Software. Apparently it has ads built in

I’ve been tempted by some of the Mate 20 Pro deals floating around, some of which are outstanding if you need a contract and are willing to go for redemption cash back. Personally I’m hanging on for something with 90hz, but my current phone isn’t at the bottom of a pond :D

I did try but it didn’t help much. It was only on approx 20% battery when we arrived at the venue. I spent nearly 2 hours with a net trying to find it but the pond was approx 4ft deep and 15 ft across, full of pond plants and the silt at the bottom was a tangle of roots!!! And it was full of fish so I had to be really careful. We tried ringing it etc hoping maybe the illumination would show but nothing.

A friend of mine has a Oneplus 7 Pro and I understand why you are waiting for the 90hz, it’s quite incredible the difference it makes. It’s a really nice phone and the one I would go for if my budget wasn’t so tight.

Apparently there is a Razor phone with 120hz but I’ve never seen one. Might have a google ;)
