Did you do it?
Nope
I believe she stil has to pay tax in the US even though she's been living here for 20 yeas? I think the US is 1 of 2 countries to do this. I know of one person to do this but all I remember is that they has to pay a visit to the US Embassy. My missus brought the subject up this week. She's a US citizen and lived in the UK for 20 years.
She feels the US tax system is a huge ball ache and simply feels she has little to no connection with the US any more.....and the whole trump thing has left her a little disillusioned.
I would have thought having dual nationality would bring more benefits than not, but at the end of the day it's her decision.
If she has no intention of returning there to live then just don’t file tax returns. It’s not like they’ll be waiting for her at the airport if she decides to go visit family.
Yep that confirms what I thought. Only the U.S. and Eritrea do this to non-residents citizens. Seems highly unfair though I'm not surprised; they might state "In God We Trust" but the doolar bill seems to be their real deity. The US can still acquire the taxes owed though:

I have a friend who was in a similar situation; hadn't lived in the States for over 20 years but then they came for him. He got himself a decent accountant that managed to get him a good deal and only ended paying a few thousand but for a while he was really bricking it.
